Hunter: the Vigil - I Left My Soul in San Francisco - Luke Chen - Prelude [Restart]

~ " No ... no no no ..."

Luke sat there, his hands covered in the man's blood, consumed at the idea that he was looking at his veritable twin.

How? His father and mother were not exactly the type of people to have an affair. And even so, what was he doing here? In the middle of nowhere, this late at night? And where was Lola!?

He took in the dragon tattoo, trying to memorize it. It wasn't much, but it was the only thing he had to go on.

I have to get him out of here, he thought, I can't just leave him here. He needs a hospital, or ... something, just something!

Before he could even try and pick up the body, though, a cackle stiffened his spine and froze every muscle in place. He whipped his head around to try and see who, or what, was making such a noise, swearing under his breath while racing at what to do.

In the end, cowardice and fear won out: Luke combed through the grass to pick up his gun again, wincing at the fact that it had finally fulfilled its purpose, and took one last look at the body. His mouth moved as if to speak. To accuse? Apologize? Luke wasn't sure: no sound came out.

With the laughter ringing in his ears and a very palpable chill coating his skin, Luke took off away from that horrid place, trying to reach the Academy building and praying that Wo Yeh was still there.

This was not a normal delivery, not at all: his mind could not rationalize what it had seen, so all he could think to do was run.~

OOC: Actually, Luke does have Green Eyes: little nod from his Caucasian mother.

Luke makes it to the Academy of Science building, but no one is there. There are some exterior lights and a modicum of lights coming from inside the building. Clearly, it is way past closing time.

It is eerily quiet here.

~ " No ... No, goddamnit, Yeh! Yeh, where in the Nine Hells are you?"

Luke looked all around, panting and clutching his side. His vision was starting to tunnel: this whole night made no sense and things were getting worse with every passing second. He sucked in the foggy night air and screamed again.

" Yeh! YEH!? ... Please don't leave me ..."

Luke crouched, trying to catch his breath and comfort himself through sheer warmth.

" Okay, okay, okay, gotta think. Think."

It suddenly hit him like a brick: The Hilton. Lu Wong. If Lola wasn't here, he needed to get the delivery to Lu Wong. Reaching into his jacket, Luke grabbed the package, looking it over. Nondescript box. No markings. No name. Had he really killed someone over this?

No time to think. No, he had to get out of there. Luke popped back up and began moving back to the boathouse, back to his bike. In the meantime, he popped out his cellphone, quickly Googled the number for the San Fran Hilton, and asked for Room 686 the second he got an answer.

Maybe, just maybe, Lu Wong would be able to clear this all up. That was it. That's all he had to do: get the box to Wong, go home, and drink this all away. Tell Valerie he was just out with their cousins, strangle Sam, tell Alex to go screw herself, and never, ever do this again.

That's it. There was a way out, he told himself. He could fix this. Explain it all to Wong, give him the box, and everything would be alright. ~

A male voice answers the phone for room 686. "What is it?"

OOC: Rather than do an entire conversation this way, just tell me what Luke is willing to reveal

OOC: Luke is pretty panicky and shaken: I'll say he stumbles and stutters over his words but says:

- Lola is either dead or missing and in great danger. He'll say he saw what looked like a ghost or something of Lola
- Wo Yeh was at the drop off point and was asking about Lola and the package. Luke admits he has no clue where Yeh is.
- Luke was attacked and wound up killing the attacker. He says the attacker looked just like him
- Luke still has the package and vehemently asks what this is all about, what's in the box?

"This is Lu Wong," the voice says, eventually.

In response to Luke saying that Lola is missing or maybe dead --

"Lola is important to our efforts," he says. "But not indispensable." The voice trails off for a second and is then replaced by static on the line. "If you find her, good. Don't waste too much time on it."

In response discussion of Wo Yeh --

"Wo Yeh, hm?" he says. "He has been... removed... from our organization. He should not be contacted in any way regarding this mission."

The man has no response whatsoever to any talk about Luke's double.

In regards to the box --

"Do not open the box," he says. "The contents are.... quite fragile... (more static) under certain conditions, which we have under control. Bring it to the hotel and you will receive further instructions."

The call abruptly ends.

~ Luke stared at the phone as the line went dead. For a moment, he used his free hand to grasp the box again.

What was in there ..? What was worth all this?
Wo Yeh had been removed from the Triads entirely? And Lu Wong had nothing to say over Luke killing a man who looked like his twin? His twin with the glowing eyes?

He was tempted to open the package. He had never done so before, he had never violated that sacred trust placed in the courier, but Luke was also sure this was unlike any other job he had taken. He stared long and hard at that simple, brown-paper wrapping.

Sighing, Luke ultimately tucked it into his jacket and trudged off. He wanted to get out of here as fast as possible: back to the boat house, back to his bike, and onwards to the Hilton. ~

OOC: If nothing else impedes him, Luke will head straight to the Hilton and to Room 686

Insight

It is 2AM before Luke makes it to the Hilton. The place is quiet, obviously. No one seems to notice Luke or pay him any mind.

Luke goes to the elevator and find the button for the 6th floor. He rides the elevator. It is something of an uncomfortable silence.

When Luke arrives on the 6th floor, he is easily able to find Room 686. It is the one with a pair of armed guards out front.
