American Football: "Lightning Bolts" move to LA

American Professional Football: It's now official: the former "San Diego Chargers" are moving their franchise to Los Angeles, California.

This might be useful for jaded sportscasters when the Chargers fall behind in scoring, as they often do: "The 'Bolts' are lagging -- yeah, they're the LA(g)-Bolts again."

What are your opinions about having both the (formerly St. Louis) Rams and the (formerly San Diego) Chargers playing in Los Angeles? It shouldn't be a scheduling problem, right? One team can schedule a home game on any weekend when the other team is scheduling an away game, so they can use the same stadium, the way The Meadowlands worked in New Jersey, right?

Yeah, they can, but I always hated that arrangement.

And given LA's fickle football history, one if not both teams will come to regret this.

..Don't forget to throw the Oakland Raiders into the mix. They still have a massive fan base in Los Angeles.

If the (LA) Rams and the (LA) Chargers ever meet each other in the Super Bowl, will they play it in the old Olympic Stadium?

If the Rams and the Chargers were ever to meet in the Super Bowl, some wags would inevitably call it the "Mopar Bowl" or the "Dodge Bowl."

(Perhaps a person would need to be a particular fan of Fiat-Chrysler Automobiles in order to fully appreciate that one.)

However, as far as the playing venue is concerned, that is determined months or years ahead of the playoffs. When the Dallas Cowboys and the Pittsburgh Steelers met in Super Bowl X, it was played in the Miami Orange Bowl in 1976, that Super Bowl was always going to be played in Miami, Florida: The preparations had been taking place months before the playoffs decided which teams would participate in it. Somewhat the same would be true if the (LA) Rams and the (LA) Chargers were to meet: the venue would have been selected long before those teams would have qualified to play in the game.
