I'm going to have to also throw my hat in with the Valor Bard crowd. They are basically the "Red Mage" who can do a little bit of everything. You can melee, you can spellcast, you have plenty of skills, and since Cha is the base stat you can also be the face. The only thing you would be lacking would be Nuking spells, but it can be easily argued that the Bard's crowd control spells, while not damaging, can be just as effective.
The only downside is...its a Bard. >_>;;
