Survivor Cannon Fodder: Gruumsh smiles, Orcs win.

    [h/t Zaardnar]

This thread is inspired by the prior threads on the core classes, the core races, the core alignments, feats, and most importantly, the UNDEAD. Continuing with our monstrous themes in honor of Volo's Guide to Monsters, we are now going to look at the bane of every first level character's sojourn into the Caves of Chaos ... the cannon fodder of D&D. That's right, those generic monsters that you just love to hobomurder for the XP. Unlike the other survivor threads, this one really really (really?) matters. Because ... do I really have to explain this? IT'S TIME TO GET YOUR HOBOMURDER ON!

IMPORTANT NOTE- DOWNVOTES ARE ONLY WORTH 2 IN THIS THREAD. BECAUSE REASONS, AND IF YOU HAD MORE THAN TWO DOWNVOTES, YOUR HOBOMURDER RAMPAGE WOULD END TOO QUICKLY.

Each monster starts with 20 points and you vote for one monster you like which gets 1 point and a monster you dislike which loses 2 points. It is intentional that a negative vote is worth more than a positive vote- first, inertia is a powerful force (that's why the goblins just sit around in their room until you kill them ...). Second, because.

Upvotes are in green, downvotes are in in red (unless you are on your phone, and are unable to). Copy and paste the previous posters vote and change the numbers. You may vote once per day. This is an honor system, and we are all honorable gamers; please do not abuse it. If this means you vote once at night one day, and once the next morning - that's fine, but don't vote again until the following day.

This is purely a popularity contest and you do not have to explain an upvote or downvote, but feel free to- explanations are where the fun is! When downvotes reach 0 the condition is eliminated (FATALITY!). Finally, if a monster has one vote left, then you have to make the choice to use all of your downvotes to eliminate it; there is no vote splitting.

Two important points that you must read before voting-
    1. This is a pure popularity contest, and is meant to be fun. You can cast your votes for whatever reason you want. Spite, irrational love/hate, gameplay mechanics, strategic voting, and so on is perfectly acceptable. Do you think kobolds are trgically underused, and could probably kill 20th level adventurers with just the right tactics? Do you get caught up in long, long threads about the change from CE to LE for Orcs? Do you want to put the HOB in Hobgoblin? It's all good! This vote does not affect anything in real life, and no cannon fodder will be permanently removed from 5e because of your vote. You can comment for the reasons for your vote, or not- up to you! But this is for enjoyment only.

    2. I took the classic cannon fodder (must have existed in the 1e Monster Manual) that started in 1e and continued through 5e. If you think that I missed some important cannon fodder or there was some cannon fodder you really liked that isn't in here, sorry boss. The list is the list. Please do not alter it. I tried to make the list so that it would not have any monsters that were questionable, in only some editions, or that were just variations on a type.

Katana Just kidding! Katana is not cannon fodder for you- you are cannon fodder for KATANA!.

    Orc WINS!!!!!!!

    Orcs are D&D.

Shambling Mounds are ... annoying plants loosely based off a comic book.

I prefer hobgoblins to orcs, just because they're more tactical/intelligent. I kinda wish they didn't come with the whole "goblinoid" baggage, but what're you going to do? Not a huge fan of semi-sentient plant life.

    Bugbear 21
Gelatinous Cube 20 -clearly the most underutilized "fodder" of all time.
    Gnoll 20
    Goblin 22
    Hobgoblin 21
Kobold 19 -soooo effin' sick of these things being compared to/put en par with things like hobgoblins and bugbears. Yeah, they're cute dog-faced rat-tailed lil' buggers. Yeah, they can be cunning trapmakers and utilized effectively (so can goblins or anyone else. That just depends on the DM). Fanatical draconic stormtroopers?? No.
