One of my players gave me a copy recently. It's called Music Inspired by Middle Earth featuring David Arkenstone.

I'm really liking it. It's fantastic for gaming. It has good music to put behind combat, wayfaring, and downtime.

The end song- "The Grey Havens"- is so moving as an ending, epic piece that I get that little I-will-not-cry lump in my throat as I listen to it.

If you can finds it, I suggest you gets it.

There are about zillion middle-earth influenced metal bands. Tha bad thing is that most/all suck. Probably the musicians just thought that Sauron was cool.

Listened to the samples..... sounds very cheap. I have plenty of stuff that is good for games, like the REAL Lord of the Rings soundtrack. Heh. :D

Try this guy: Keyes. He writes music fit for movies and soundtracks, and he has made quite a few Middle-Earth inspired themes. I've listened to some of them and they are very good. Since they are more soundtracks than songs, they are better as RPG background music than the average metal band. Oh, don't worry, the site is in both Italian and English ;)

The reason I posted this is because it DOESN'T sound cheap... at least in my opinion. Shrug.

Here are a couple of Middle Earth inspired/based songs that I have permenatly on my play list:

These two are by the Brobdingnagian Bards, a couple of really good friends of mine
Tolkien

Fellowship of the Ring (a rough cut, but they're a bit distracted right now making an Irish CD for St. Patricks day)

Two more, by Blind Guardian. This is... I don't know what you'd call it, but it's some cool music :)
Lord of the Rings

As soon as I saw this album from Arkenstone I had to have it. Being a novice new age buff, I know that Arkenstone has gotten better and better throughout his career and I knew his take on Middle-Earth would at least be marginally entertaining. I have to agree that a number of tracks are quite suitable for gaming. It's nice to know that I'm not the only one who noticed this album.
