D&D 5E 5e. Repeling blast nerfed in our game. Help me to rebuild my Bard-Lock

If the DM wants an actual specific reason why that is wrong.
Tell him to look up Dwarven Plate - Its magical property is "While wearing this armor, you gain a +2 bonus to AC. In addition, if an effect moves you against your will along the ground, you can use your reaction to reduce the distance you are moved by up to 10 feet."

Hes basically given the magical effect of Dwarven Plate to every NPC, except it doesn't require the reaction.

On the subject though. I would just swap Repelling blast for devil's sight/fiendish vigor/mask of many faces/armor of shadows/beguiling influence.

Eldritch blast+agonizing blast is a very powerful cantrip to supplement the bard control and buffing spells.

I think it would have been more appropriate to give them a Dex save to catch themselves on the edge of the cliff/railing. It doesn't nerf the ability, just gives them a chance to react to suddenly being tossed off the edge. I've given PC's a Dex save in similar circumstances.

I can see the DM's reasons for this.

Anyone trying to shove an opponent needs to make a contested ability check, and they don't get to do damage as well as pushing their foe, and they can only move it 5ft, and only if it is of a certain size or smaller. Battlemaster fighters can do damage and push an opponent, but it uses a limited resource (a superiority die) and still gives the target a saving throw in addition to its armour class.

Yet a warlock can push any size creature up to 10ft, as well as damaging it, once a round, every round, all day, spending no resources, and all they have to do is overcome armour class. Oh, and at fifth level they can do this to multiple creatures a round. And all of this at long range (up to 600ft with the right invocation and feat).

I thought about nerfing it as well!

What stopped me was that there are a lot of useful invocations so the warlock's player is forced to make meaningful choices. I like meaningful choices.

And, yes, I know this is a 7-month old thread, but I couldn't find a 5-year old thread about this to vent in. :]

Instead of nerfing it (or many other things) I just do the same thing to the players. Its amazing how their attitude changes, but hey, the BBEG is an intelligent creature who has did his homework and picked up those ideas also. I used it on the forums before, but the Storm Giant Ranged Specialist with Sharpshooter throwing boulders at +9 to hit and 4d12 +19 to damage makes people notice. I had great fun with even simpler creatures, the advanced Orog with Great Weapon feat using multiattack with +14 to damage per hit with minions using help another action to get advantage on first attack roll was feared.

Personally I think it should allow a save. As it stands now the invocation at any level can push the Tarrasque or even more massive creatures, that just doesn't seem right.

I ruled the push only worked on large creatures and smaller everything else I left in place. The warlock thought that was reasonable
