Ehh, without the new Melee cantrips from SWAG, I would shy away from Eldritch Knight. You'll find yourself just using up your spell slots each day to shield.
You'll have a lot more fun with Battlemaster and combat maneuvers.
If you want some magic power, Multiclass Warlock, or Bard.
Bards get 4 prepared 1st level spells, and Ritual Caster, so even 1 level dip will give you a lot of utility.
