The Pair O' Dice Role-Playing Game Kickstarter campaign is running for one week only in accordance with the Kickstarter All in 1 (#allin1) promotion.

The Pair O' Dice Role-Playing Game is designed to be played with only a standard set of dice -- two six-sided dice. No pouch of various polyhedrons needed here. Just swipe a pair of good ol' fashion dice out of one of the board games tucked away in the linen closet. And while the dice required are minimum, the game itself is not limited. The POD RPG utilizes variations of familiar mechanics of old school role-playing games, while at the same time minimizing a lot of the crunch that can sometimes get in the way of playing a good story.

One of the pledge rewards offers future Pair O' Dice Role-Playing Game products for life. This is your chance to get in on the ground floor of a new role-playing game line and get everything published for one incredible low price.

What are some details about the Pair O' Dice Role-Playing Game System?

The information provided below should serve as a sample of the very basics of the Pair O' Dice Role-Playing Game system and does not represent the entire scope of the game.

  • The overall resolution mechanic utilized with the Pair O’ Dice system is two six-sided dice—or 2d6. Resolution rolls are modified by a simple progression ladder of penalty and bonus modifiers. These modifiers are stackable, but are limited. Both character attributes and skills use the same 2 thru 12 ranking system. The modifiers generally rank from "Worst" (-3) to "Best (+3).
  • Most characters, player and non-player alike, as well as creatures, have six attributes. They are Muscle, Moves, Might, Mind, Moxie, and Mojo, or the six Ms. Each attribute is ranked or scored between 2 and 12—with 7 being the most common. Grit (or grit points) is what keeps a character alive—a combination of physical and mental endurance, coping and enduring with damage and pain, and a will to live to fight another day.
  • Checks to determine success or failure are rolled using 2d6. (Just like about everything else in the game.) The method for skill checks is called “SAM.” S.A.M. = Skill + Attribute + Means.
  • The X-Factor represents abilities that are above and beyond “normal” capabilities. They may be manifested by a number of different means, such as alien, divine, mechanical, magic, mutation, special circumstances or conditions, etc… The X-Factor increased the chance of success and the end result.

Again, the examples above do not represent the Pair O' Dice Role-Playing Game system as a whole, and is offered here to provide an idea of what it is all about.

Why create another role-playing game system?

The goal with the Pair o’ Dice Role-Playing Game was to devise a fun and enjoyable method to enjoy role-playing with a variety of different and creative settings and genres. In order to cook up a role-playing system that would be simple to learn, yet flexible enough to manage a wide variety of settings familiar role-playing game standards were borrowed and modified and a lot of excess was shaved off. In the Pair O’ Dice universe(s), certain laws of science, nature, and reality needed to be simplified and/or modified in order to achieve the goal of creating a simple role-playing game system that captured a cinematic feel.

So, things work the way they do in the Pair O’ Dice Role-Playing Game for a reason. It’s understood that the system here might not be ideal for every RPGer, and that’s why there are already hundreds of other different role-playing systems out there. If there’s a rule that you don’t like in the POD RPG system, then by all means break it and make it work the way you want. After all, rules were made to be broken. The rules, as they are, are rather sparse and straight forward for ease of play. A concentrated effort has been made not to expand or overthink the rules too much.

The Pair O’ Dice Role-Playing Game is the sort of game that you can play on the fly if your regular gaming session falls through by someone not showing up. Or, as a break from your mega-long epic campaign—just to mix things up. It’s a simple system that can be played during your lunch break at school or work, in a blanket fort with your kids, or in the backseat of a car during a long road trip.

The Pair O' Dice Role-Playing Game can also be used for extended campaigns and/or adventures when it is desirable for the rules to take a backseat to the overall story and fun.

Pair O' Dice Role-Playing Game Kickstarter Update #4 -- Stretch Goal Status Update #3

We're now over 72 hours into the Pair O' Dice Role-Playing Game Kickstarter campaign and we're 498% funded with 49 backers. I like it. So far, only one stretch goal has been unlocked. Help spread the word about the Pair O' Dice Role-Playing Game to unlock more.
100 Twitter Follows: The @pod_rpg Twitter account has 34 followers and the @GeekPunkGames Twitter account has 58 followers. So, POD RPG needs 66 more and GeekPunk Games needs 47 more to unlock that stretch goal.

100 Facebook Likes: The Pair O' Dice Role-Playing Game Facebook page has 24 likes and the GeekPunk Games Facebook page has 39 likes. We still need 76 likes for the POD RPG Facebook page and 61 likes for the GeekPunk Games Facebook page.

100 Tweets: According to my calculations it looks like we've got about 30ish or so tweets with links to the POD RPG Kickstarter page. I want to give props to Tom Dudgeon for the term "tweets for treats." The tweets are easy to do with the share option on the Pair O' Dice Role-Playing Game Kickstarter page. Any tweet with the link to http://kck.st/2mq44cQ or https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/geekpunkcom/pair-o-dice-role-playing-game or even http://podrpg.com will do.

100 Backers: As of this update we're at 49 POD People Pledgers (or backers). Just shy of halfway there.
I'm going to offer another stretch goal to unlock yet another POD supplement. There's a Reddit post linking to the GeekPunk Games blog mentioning the POD RPG Kickstarter. If we can manage to bump that one post up to 100 "up points" everyone will get an additional POD supplement -- including the $2 backers. Cool?
