Any assistance with character building for a relatively new player?

So, I was wondering if someone more experienced with D&D could help me build a level 1 character (I know what I want just not how to execute it nor the knowledge to do so), and how they would pan out up to the level 3 archtype.
What I want is, what guides say, is a less optimized route at a ranger which is a dual wielding, Dex based beast master and I want help making it work.
You prolly want Dex16 Con14 and Wis14-16. Wood elf is best, but variant human or stout halfling works too. Don't push for Dex17, it's a waste.

Your best feat would be crossbow expert, but you cannot use it or TWF when you command your beast to attack. Forget most combat feat in that case. Pick DW only if you want a whip or something similar.

What is the benefit in Crossbow Expert if I want the character to dual wield melee weapons?
None.
CE is better than DW, but they both are incompatible with beast master.

To get the bonus action attack, you MUST use the attack action.
- your pet can only attack if you use your action to command it. No attack action.
- your pet can help (at level 7) if you use your bonus action. No bonus action left.
Your beast is just a decoration if you try to dual wield.
