Day 260: Maka

Tellerian Hawke said:
Maka will take a "torch" and light it, and make his way slowly down the slope, toward where the other globe stopped and shattered. He hopes that bringing the torch closer will illuminate other globes nearby.

Vittero illuminates a light stick and follows Maka down the slope.

GM:

Maka and Vittero can see that the flooring room at the end of the slope is somewhat illuminated by the one globe mounted on an unadorned column of cut stone that does not quite reach the ceiling. There are other columns that do, for support. This room is apparently the central hub for extended mining activity, as path go from here in many directions. There is rubble stone strewn about, but nothing else of interest.

Day 260: Taylar

Taylar will go down the decline last and will hold his stick lantern high. He will look for markings on the walls telling them more about this place.

GM:

Shadows of the others play across the floor and stretch on ahead of the progress. He finds no markings on the slope, but after circumnavigating the floor room, he does find chiseled marks by each of the exiting paths. There is a symbol and tallies. While the symbols are not recognized it is surmised that they represent what was mined followed by a quantity or perhaps a distance.

Day 260: Raven Elk

All this time, Raven Elk has remained outside on the porch/landing. He and his friends have seen the markings on the stone porches and wondered about their meaning. Raven Elk realizes that none of them has traced them while using Way. Raven Elk now does this.

Sitting at one of the more impressive designs, Raven Elk begins tracing from the center outward with his index finger while (analyzing) Way to "sense" anything that may be offered: a meaning, a resonance from the spirit of the engraver, a message, a history...a warning...anything.

GM:

Like groping in the dark, or more like throwing pebbles in the dark and listening to their echo to determine what might be out there, Raven Elk finds himself near lost in a trance. The light globes that functioned on their own are rather simple compared to this. At first there are to many echoes, too many fluctuations to make sense of any of it, but then a pattern starts to emerge. Raven Elk realizing that he is sensing a complicated integration of mystic and mechanical Way lines.

Though the machination necessary to generate such a standing wave is far beyond his ability, Raven Elk attempt to bend one of the mechanical lines like he would pull air rather than push it. The instantaneous sensation of falling breaks his concentration and causes him to open his eyes. He wobbles, a bit queasy, but finds that he is standing on solid ground, albeit not the solid ground where he thought he should be.

Raven Elk looks around him in a almost panic when he realizes that he has moved. The panic wanes more slowly than it arose and his heart pounds heavily in his ears, but he realizes that he is standing on the symbol from the first keep, not the fourth.

The others inside the mine hear a loud 'ploop' sound, like what is heard when a smooth stone is dropped into a placid pool, come echoing down the entry path. Adisakti, who has not walked down the slope, turns around at the sound and notices that Raven Elk is missing.

Adi isn’t too concerned with Raven’s disappearance at first... He mumbles to himself with a grin “He is probably off poking a frog with a way enhanced twig.”

Adi starts to walk down the slope, but something doesn’t feel right, almost like there is a Raven shaped hole in his mind. He turns around walks to the entrance and looks into the courtyard, “Raven” he says in a conversational tone.

He cries out a little louder, “Raven?”

Now he starts to get a little more concerned. He runs to where the tunnel begins to descend. “TAYLAR!!!, V!!! RAVEN IS MISSING!!!

Adi sets down his pack and runs into the courtyard, weapon at the ready. "RAVEN!?!?!" He yells, stopping to listen for a reply.

Hearing Adi's call Taylar comes back out of the mine and says, "We heard a strange noise. Did Raven Elk fall off the edge?" He will go to the porch with the symbol and look around, including peering over the sides of the porch to try and find his missing friend. "Stay on your guard," he warns the others. "There might be another spirit causing mischief."

Day 260: Where is Raven Elk?

Across the valley, standing on the porch area from Keep One, Raven Elk can clearly hear his friend yell for him. Turning he can also see him, since the platforms are above the vegetative growth in the vale. His friends across the distance would be able to see him as well, if they knew where to look.

Raven Elk hears Adisakti's calls. As he sees Taylar and Vittero run out to Adi and all three at the fourth portico and porch, he shouts to them:

"ADI!!! TAYLAR!!! V!!!" He then waves as he sees them turn toward the first keep where he's standing.

He lets them take in the scene and the shock of what has happened before he yells to them: "Stand back! Stand by the doorway!!!"

He keeps shouting this until they get the idea and stand away from the center of the porch. Raven Elk then finds the symbol that is at the center of the fourth porch off to the bottom left of the center symbol of the first porch (which he now recognizes as the one he had traced using Way), and repeats the process of tracing the fourth keep symbol with his finger while channeling Way to make the instant transport back where he started.

Day 260: Wayward Raven Elk

GM:

Once Raven Elk sees that his friends have moved, he begins the same ritual as before. When he bends the mechanical line, nothing happens. The pattern in the waves simply dissipates and then begins again, anew. He tries a second time with the same result. He is still standing on the platform for the first keep.

Vittero cups his hands to his mouth and hollers. "Are you going to walk in a circle over there all day or are you going to walk back over here?"

Taylar looks puzzled as he observes Raven Elk's strange behavior and his position. "How did he get over there? There's no way he could have run or jumped, we were only in the mine for a few moments. Did you fly over there?" he calls out to Raven Elk. On a whim, Taylar observes the symbols on the ground and attempts to manipulate Way.

Maka looks at the spot where Raven Elk was, then to the spot where he currently IS; a look of confusion is upon his countenance, and he stares blankly for several moments until the realization hits him like a bolt from the blue. Maka's eyes light up with recognition, although he is still unsure of the specifics.

Maka looks at Taylar, and says, "These symbols in front of each tower... I believe they are connected. I'm not sure how, but I think it's possible to move between them, using The Way. We should pause here, and take time to study this. If Raven could do it by accident, it might be possible to learn to do it intentionally. This is a great gift to us, the spirits of our ancestors are smiling upon us. We should not ignore their generosity."
