D20 and Miniatures Paradox

The d20 license got ammended so that you couldn't use it to sell a miniatures game, right?

So now that 3.5 is a miniatures game[!] and teh SRD will be updated to reflect that, does that mean that the D20 license is unusable?

Or will the SRD omit all the miniature information (squares, corners, etc)

The d20 STL just prevents products that actually have miniatures in it from using the d20 logo.

(Also, very few d20 products actually even mention combat itself, as that's pretty much covered in the PHB...)

Correct. The product that will bear the trademarked d20 logo must not contain any "miniature" (as strictly defined in the Guide). You can include rules for using miniatures, even a miniature wargame ruleset, you can even include counters/tokens or paper standups, but the product in question cannot include miniatures inside.

So this does not apply to the adventures that reference Reaper miniatures, telling you which minis would best represent characters in combat?

You can talk about miniatures all you want. It's the actual, physical objects you can't include.

No, it does not. If the product does not contain actual miniatures, then it is okay to carry the d20 logo.

Having said that, I still wonder why Holistic Design continues to carry the d20 logo on their miniatures line. Unless they're trying to sell the remaining inventory prior to the revision of the Trademark License and Guide (it has a grace period if manufactured and packaged before June 30, 2002), they should have discontinued producing new ones.

Correct or clarify me if I'm wrong.

Perhaps. Does anyone read the fine print of those minis from Holistic Designs? Filter out the labels that have to come with the d20 logo (see the Trademark Guide), are there any other legal notice that have anything to do with the logo being used with permission from Wizards of the Coast?
