There was also a rather unfortunate trend in 4e to re-imagine several monstrous humanoids to make them look more like humans, turning them into the kind of 'funny head' aliens that are so popular in sci-fi soap operas like Star Trek and Star Wars. (But in these cases they at least serve a purpose: it saves money in the sfx department).
