Day 88: The Aftermath, Part 3

Seeing that Tor, Sannit, and Sheldon are incapacitated at the moment Saemund checks the pack animals and ties them off, he then attempts to sense any other life forms approaching. He keeps his axe out and scans for threats. He doesn't venture staying close to Merin and the others. He looks at Merin, Is that a common occurrence from beetles?
Indigo, who is currently herding Sheldon back toward the group, addresses Saemund.
"Thank you for retrieving the pack animals, though you will not need to tie them. They have been well trained to take a variety of commands, though they will never reach the level of ability of Turtle or Myth."

GM:
OOC: Sense Person:
Range = Adhesion + Will = 15 strides
Effectiveness = Essence + Mind + Adhesion + Knowledge + Will + Collegiate + d100
Resistance = Essence + Mind + Adhesion + Knowledge + Will + Collegiate + d100
Time = Resistance (hours) / (Effectiveness + Luck)

This is used to determine if a live person exists within the effective range, even if the person is hidden from view.

Time: 1 hour / (53 + 99 + 73) = 16 seconds

It requires only a few seconds for Saemund to be satisfied that no other people are within his range of detection.

Bolo asks Indigo,
"Do we have any herbs that will assist in this healing?"
Indigo leaves Sheldon momentarily to look through her pouches on one of the pack animals.
"Let me look and see... I do. I have 1 measure of Seeds of Awareness. We should probably use them on Sannit, since he seems the furthest lost We can also use this yellow stone we found the other day, but that is all I am seeing."

GM:
OOC: Awareness:
Range = Touch
Effectiveness = Essence + Mind + Cohesion + Knowledge + Persona + Wisdom + Collegiate + Academic
Time = 1 hour[loss / (target Will + target Cohesion + effectiveness + d100)]

This increases the rate of return of the loss of Mind and Persona in the intended target.

Bolo: 70
Indigo: 63
Of the unaffected people, only Bolo and Indigo can perform this task. Sheldon and Sannit would be able to under the Theologic Skill, but they are both suffering Dementia.

Sannit: 9 / (7 + 6 + 133 x 5(seeds) + 100 + 83) = 38 seconds

Bolo and Indigo are surprised by their good fortune at restoring Sannit. In only a few seconds, his mind seems fully recovered, and he assists in restoring Sheldon.
GM: Sannit: 56

Sheldon: 7 / (8 + 12 + 189 x 2(stone) + 81) = 53 seconds

Merin is non-plussed by his inability to help with the mental restoration, but stands by anyway, just in case Indigo and Bolo discover some way in which he can help. Myth watches with interest, not fully understanding what is wrong, but sensing that Tor needs help.

Merin is non-plussed by his inability to help with the mental restoration, but stands by anyway, just in case Indigo and Bolo discover some way in which he can help. Myth watches with interest, not fully understanding what is wrong, but sensing that Tor needs help.
Indigo looks over at Merin, seeing the concern.
"We are each becoming more efficient in our own areas of specialization. Give us a minute. I am sure all will be fine."

GM:
OOC: Time = 1 hour[loss / (target Will + target Cohesion + effectiveness + d100)]

Bolo: 70
Indigo: 63
Sannit: 56
Sheldon: 65

Tor: 9 / (7 + 9 + 70 + 63 + 56 + 65 + 64) = 1 minute, 37 seconds

It takes a little longer without the use of herbs or other enhancing items, but Tor is restored in short order, and all previously affected individuals demonstrate full mental faculties.

Day 88: Ending the Day

Care and time are taken to separate the carapaces from the beetles to make sure that no one succumbs to the pheromone again. Fortunately, the acrid aroma does not linger long after death.

OOC: New Collections:
5 Huge Emerald Cutter Beetle Carapaces

As the party continues on in an easterly direction, the small ledge that was being used as a guide makes a sharp turn to the south. Continuing East, the party comes to a large stream, not uncrossable by any means, but about twice as wide as the rivulet that runs through Southroad Fair.

GM: Earned XP:

After Sannit recovers his senses, he wishes he could lose them again as Bolo chastises him over the ordeal, reminding him how he disposed of his ranged weapon because it was unnecessary. "I'll be more careful when stabbing giant bugs next time," he grumbles.

Bolo was not really upset about the toxic bug guts, she just does not want Sannit's official 'Minister' title to go to his head.

Turtle, disappointed at having no corn to munch on due to the time of year, decides that now it's time for some fishing.

After replenishing water supplies, check for precious metals around the stream.

After replenishing water supplies, check for precious metals around the stream.
GM:
OOC: Mining:
Sense Mineral (Collegiate Task) +
Mind + Knowledge + Wisdom +
Commercial + Mercantile
Time = 1 day * rarity / (Effectiveness + d100)

This task is applied to the search for usable metal or stone.

Sense Mineral:
Range = Cohesion + Will
Effectiveness = Essence + Mind + Cohesion + Knowledge + Will + Wisdom + Collegiate

This may be applied as a constant task if Health cumulative allows. This is used to augment the Mining Task to determine if usable metal or stone ore exists within the effective range. The range also considers depth which may be unreachable. Mineral sensitivity requires possession of the type of material desired. A character may not search for gold without holding a piece in hand, etc.

Sannit: 47 + 31 = 78
Bolo: 63 + 32 = 95

Tin: 1 day / (78 + 95 + 71) = 6 minutes
Zinc: 1 day / (78 + 95 + 81 = 6 minutes
Iron: 2 days / (78 + 95 + 87) = 11 minutes
Aluminum: 2 days / (78 + 95 + 87) = 11 minutes
Chromium: 3 days / (78 + 95 + 63) = 12 minutes
Magnesium: 3 days / (78 + 95 + 71) = 18 minutes
Calcium: 3 days / (78 + 95 + 93) = 16 minutes
Nickel: 4 days / (78 + 95 + 83) = 23 minutes
Copper: 4 days / (78 + 95 + 70) = 24 minutes

The waters of the stream are clear and cool. Turtle splashes around happily, catching several fish. Sannit and Bolo search for metals until it becomes too dark to be feasible. Only a trivial amount of aluminum, magnesium, calcium, and nickel is detected.

OOC: New Collections:
2 Tin Ingots
1 Zinc Ingot
1 Iron Ingot
6 Chromium Ingots
1 Copper Ingot

Sheldon and Indigo relieve the pack animals of their burdens and allow them to water themselves and feed. They decide to search for usable stone, starting with Carbone, by going downstream, then do some fishing as it gets darker.

GM: Sheldon: 65 + 33 = 98
Indigo: 59 + 33 = 92

Carbone: 2 days / (98 + 92 + 90) = 10 minutes
Yellow: 1 day / (98 + 92 + 100) = 5 minutes
White: 1 day / (98 + 92 + 70 = 6 minutes
Bloodstone: 2 days / (98 + 92 + 87) = 10 minutes
Burgundy: 2 days / (98 + 92 + 99 + 66) = 8 minutes
Green: 3 days / (98 + 92 + 96) = 15 minutes
Orange: 3 days / (98 + 92 + 71) = 17 minutes
Blue: 4 days / (98 + 92 + 87) = 21 minutes
Black: 4 days / (98 + 92 + 98) = 20 minutes

Sheldon and Indigo wade around in the shallows of the rocky stream bed. They are able to locate a few useful stones before turning to fishing. They are able to capture enough fish for the entire party to enjoy a good meal.

OOC: New Collections:
  • 1 Yellow Stone
  • 1 Bloodstone
  • 1 Burgundy Stone
  • 1 Green Stone
  • 1 Orange Stone

While everyone else searches for minerals Saemund practices sensing their life force. He concentrates on one of them at a time and walks away until he cannot sense that person or animal anymore, noting how far away they are. He attempts to perceive the difference between individuals by the way they feel. He practices telling the difference between man and beast. He also attempts to sense their state, whether they are calm or combative.

Tor is quite disconcerted to discover that he had taken leave of his senses. He resolves, inwardly to himself, to train his mind to be stronger, more focused, more aware, so as to prevent such a thing from occurring again in the future.

OOC: What ability / skill is needed to make a person more resistance to mental / willpower attacks?

Merin, noting how effective the fire was against the beetle, scours the area for more lighter pine. He suspects that these insects might be common in this area, and wants to be prepared.

Merin tells the group, "If the Maldrog live in the mountains, it is likely that they live inside them, since the inside of a mountain would likely be rich in minerals, and since a fortress carved into a mountain would be much easier to defend. We should keep a lookout for signs of worked or paved stone, once we reach the area."

OOC: Sense People:
Range = Adhesion + Will
Effectiveness = Essence + Mind + Adhesion + Knowledge + Will + Collegiate - Resistance
Resistance = Essence + Mind + Adhesion + Knowledge + Will + Collegiate
Time = 1 hour / (Effectiveness + Luck)

This is used to determine if any live people exists within the effective range, even if the person is hidden from view.

Range: 15 strides (~45' radius)
Effectiveness: 44
Time: 1 hour / (44 + 61) = 34 seconds

Realizing what Saemund is doing, the others do not resist his attempts.

GM:
OOC: Observation:
Empathy (Collegiate Task) +
Mind + Knowledge + Wisdom +
Commercial + Mercantile

This active task represents watching and listening to the immediate area to determine patterns, anomalies, or dangers. It can also be used to determine a person's intentions or motivation.

Empathy:
Range: Self
Effectiveness: Essence + Cohesion
Mind + Will + Discipline
Collegiate + Divination

This may be utilized as a constant task if Health cumulative allows. It is used to augment the outcome of various Commercial Tasks.

Blend:
Inversion (Collegiate Task) +
Mind + Knowledge + Wisdom +
Commercial + Obscurative

This task is different than hiding. It allows the character to blend into a crowd and become indistinguishable as an individual.

Inversion:
Range: Self
Effectiveness: Essence + Adhesion +
Mind + Will + Discipline
Collegiate + Divination

This may be utilized as a constant task if Health cumulative allows. This paranormal task is the opposite of Empathy. It is used to conceal ones motivation, intentions, and presence.

Saemund: 46 + 27 = 73
Sheldon: 54 + 35 = 89
Tor: 43 + 32 = 75
Merin: 45 + 28 = 73
Myth: 18
Indigo: 43 + 34 = 77
Sannit: 42 + 31 = 73
Bolo: 45 + 32 = 77
Turtle: 20

As this is being performed as a training exercise, the random element has been omitted.

Saemund realizes that locating people is much easier than trying to determine their mental state as most people instinctively guard against such intrusion. The two companion animals are still rather easy to read despite their advanced training. Only Merin and Sannit are unable to conceal their emotions and intentions from Saemunds effort.

GM: Note:
For future reference, Sylvar B earned the party XP for this new training.
