D&D 5E (IC) Fitz's Folly

Legend
An hour or so later, the group began to move away from the River Soshenstar, heading west. To the south, the jungle gave way to the expanse of swamplands known as the Aldani Basin. The skies were clear and light reflected off of many sources of standing water for many miles; it was a dazzling sight. Chrysagon shook his head and the spots remained. Miss Imogen shivered. Qawasha began to rotate his shoulders, as if is back was very sore.

They began to move through an area of tall grass, waist height or more, and Dellrak stopped to see if there was something in his boot - he was having trouble feeling his feet, and he fell a little behind. Tarri put her hand on her husband's arm as if she was afraid she'd lose her way. Again, Miss Imogen shivered and she felt her eyes well with tears, though she had thought herself over the worst of her ordeal.

Rodrigo had noticed most of this from his place in the centre of the group. He watched a bird fly high overhead and when he looked back down, the path before him twisted in a brief dizzy spell. He was about to call for a halt and get Chrysagon to check on everyone's health when Wulf Rygor shouted a warning from up ahead. The scoutmaster and Harb had gone on ahead to check for danger, and sure enough, something was hunting them through the high grass.

Harb could see the grass slowly part in a snake-like path coming toward him at about twenty feet away. Wulf saw another on the other side. Where there were two, there would be more. When the scoutmaster shouted a warning, Dellrak quickly shoved on his boot and looked around. He spotted another, back near him, working its way toward the main group.

OOC: Map notes: Anything that is mottled (other than the base green) is difficult terrain. Anything approaching white is hazardous. The scouts have warned everyone about it, so be careful. It's not easy for the characters to see the difference, so I'm going to assume that if you make a mistake, so do they.

Harb sensed a dangerous situation with these creatures. He decided a lightning strike was best for the moment, lest he find himself surrounded without support from his allies.

Dashing through the grass he struck the unprepared creature hard across it's side with his quarterstaff and then in an instant was gone again, now much closer to the group.

OOC: Move to JI13, Strike and then BA and 1 ki pt to disengage to N13.

Round 1

“‘eads up, lads an’ lassies!” Dellrak called a warning as he drew his new greataxe. He looked at the nearest raptor and muttered some words in an ancient form of Dwarvish. His axe glowed and then seemed to fade, almost appearing to be insubstantial, though it clearly still had some heft as he wielded it. Then he rushed at the raptor, getting between it and the rest of the party.

Unfortunately Dellrak tripped on a knot of grass roots, nearly falling on his face as he stumbled toward the dinosaur. The raptor hissed in a way that almost seemed like it was laughing at him.

Miss Imogen stands tall, poised, as she assesses the field of battle in front of her. Tarri and Kasqua are vulnerable, she thinks instinctively. Protecting them is the priority. She hears Chrysagon's words behind her and suddenly she gains clarity.

Two quick arrows towards the nearest dinosaur.

Legend
Harb & Wulf vs Raptor1 & Raptor2

Harb rushed through the grass and struck one of the creatures with his quaterstaff, then disappeared into the grass again. It stumbled, steadying itself with its tail and at first it seemed to follow him, but it suddenly dashed sideways and went around him, leaping through the air to scratch at Rodrigo instead. Harb's foot broke through some thick sod and he stepped in some sort of hidden puddle. Trapped gas erupted from the ground and clouded around him, choking his air and blurring his vision.

Wulf Rygor drew his sword and said, too late, "Beware the gas pockets!"

Then one of the creatures leapt on him and bit and scratched at him as he stabbed at it in turn, barely holding his ground.

GM: Unfortunately, Harb stopped his movement right where he shouldn't have.
Wulf is already down to 3 HP. These things are tougher than I thought.
@Ancalagon hasn't posted for Rodrigo yet, BTW.
Damage Taken:

OOC: Busy weekend sorry about that - aaaaand then EN world crashed as I was writing this post! Luckily I was able to save it. This is only the first part - save and reaction - but since I couldn't see the forum anymore I saved it and stopped writing. Actual action post to follow asap!

Rodrigo wiped his brow. He was tired - so tired. Why was the heat getting to him so much? His homeland wasn't that much cooler than here... He saw the others falter too. It was time for a halt.

The attack by the ferocious beasts took him by surprise. "Beware!" he yelled, too late. He suddenly felt invigorated - Brother Chrysagon had invoked his god! There was hope. He stepped aside smoothly as the beast lunged at him, going for the classical stop-jab

[Reaction]: Riposte: use reaction if attacker miss to counter attack. If hit, maneuver dice damage

Blessed riposte vs raptor, round 1: 1D20+5+1D4 = [11]+5+[1] = 17

riposte damage vs raptor 1, round 1: 1D8+5+1D8 = [2]+5+[6] = 13

The beast impaled itself against the blade but kept coming, trying to bow Rodrigo over
(OOC: I'm assuming 13 HP doesn't kill it!)

blessed save vs raptor, round 1: 1D20+3+1D4 = [20]+3+[2] = 25

Rodrigo yanked his blade back and kept pivoting, keeping his footing. The rush of adrenaline had cleared his head.

Rodrigo took a brief moment to look around. He didn't like what he saw - it was time to strike quickly so the others could relieve pressure. He wasn't sure how long his energy would last.

[Action] Action surge vs raptor

blessed action surge vs raptor: 1D20+5+1D4 = [17]+5+[1] = 23
1D20+5+1D4 = [17]+5+[2] = 24

Rodrigo danced around the beast - it wasn't an undead - it had self preservation, it had instincts that could be fooled. It also had a vulnerable knee which rodrigo kicked sideways, trying to trying to buckle it as he slashed for the creature's throat.

first action surge attack vs raptor, round 1, trip attack: 1D8+5 +1D8 = [3]+5+[1] = 9

OOC: Creature must now make a strength DC 13 save or fall prone. If it is prone, the second attack has advantage

(nope on crit fishing: crit fishing vs maybe prone raptor, round 1: 1D20+5+1D4 = [12]+5+[4] = 21
)

OOC2: If the first attack kills the raptor, Rodrigo will carefully advance on the one attacking wulf trying to avoid the gas pocket, and lunge at it. Following description supposed Raptor 1 is still up

As the creature wobbled, trying not to fall, Rodrigo side-stepped again and jabbed it in the ribs:
