I have a very on/off relationship with this show. Sometimes it bores me to tears, but once or twice a year there will be a really good episode which keeps me watching.

Anyhow, it's back. Rick v Negan. Starting this in advance of it being on here tonight (I believe it was on the US last night). Spoilers permitted in this thread; no need to sblock them.

For its entire run this show has had characters do what ever stupid thing they need to do in order to move the plot forward, no matter if it made no sense. But man what a stupid episode last night. 10 guys with rifles at 15 yards...yet they only winged Negan apparently. What was Rick's actual plan? Drive the horde to the Saviors, ok. Why didn't everyone open up on Negan and crew as soon as they walked out? The were planning on a gun fight, and the only Negan has to die thing...really? They were killing other Saviors left and right and honestly did they think that would work? "yeah lets join team Rick!"

And holy crap is the Priest an idiot. And I'm guessing that despite having a rifle ready to fire Negan is just fine for next episode. And wow do they ever waste ammo.

My Mom is a die hard fan whose house is covered in TWD memorabilia. She will make any excuse to overcome bad plotting but even she was unable to believe how badly that was written. I'm betting they keep shedding viewers this year.

Hmm. Yeah, rather than that conversation with Negan they could have just shot him. I found their plan a bit confusing too.

I couldn't figure that out for most of the 7th season... Imho, the worst season so far: alternately boring and torture-porn - yuck!
I have little hope that the 8th season will be much better.

After a certain point in all these longform TV shows, it does tend to boil down to stuff happens because it moves the plot forward. Debatably, it’s an inherent problem with the medium. I’m just trying to not be jaded about having zombies and dragons in big-budget television shows.

Father Gabriel has somehow gone from that doofus that nearly got people killed to one of my favorite of the secondary characters. There’s something about how he sticks to his convictions and beliefs, no matter the risk to himself, no matter how terrible the world is. It’s like, you could see that he knew trying to save Father Gregory was a bad idea, but he did it anyway, because he couldn't just leave him to die.

I don’t think it’s a particularly good show but there is a dark part of me that needs to see people get eaten alive by the living dead.

It’s a sickness.

Not sure how closely sundays show followed the comics but clearly the goal wasn't to kill Negan outright or the top LT's ( 1o f which is now an ally and one is a non violent former ally). Also not sure why Negans group didn't kill the leader of the hilltop once they realized he was useless?

Very realistic to see Gabriel take the action he did. Happens in the real world all the time

Glad me and the wife ain't the only ones that couldn't figure out why they had a bunch of guys with guns with Neegan and all his commanders together and they didn't think to just you know open fire.
