Abyss* is a d20 campaign set in the fantastic world of Dante's Inferno. It is a world of treachery and evil, where violence is a continual threat and doing a good deed could get you killed. Powerful archfiends dominate an eternal prison filled with the lost and the damned, but are themselves dominated by the lords of the Abyss. Within, you will find a pit consisting of nine circles. In the pit is a cosmology, a campaign, fire, brimstone, demons, monsters, and sinners.

Lots and lots of sinners.

Whether you're looking for a place for your bad guys to call home or for a new campaign where "good" is a four-letter word, the Abyss opens up new depths of gaming. Literally. So what are you waiting for?

Your handbasket is waiting.

Look for Abyss on store shelves in 2004.

* This game is based upon the original Abyss game by Marco Pecota from Global Games, 1997.

Wow, sounds pretty cool. I haven't seen a game yet to exemplify the fundamental existence of corporate life! I think this will be "HOT" get it? :p

From the web site... "New cover art is being developed."

But why? All the fan-boy gamers will just loooooove the scantily clad dominatrix-type.

Seriously, this sounds like a neat product. It may even inspire me to go back and re-read my copy of Dante with the Blake illustrations. And they say us D&D'ers are uncultured... ;)

Now I know I'm getting old.

Wasn't the original game one with a Brom Cover and mainly used for the demon miniatures that battled over the variosu layers?

To clarify:

First came "Inferno: Battles of the Abyss," a miniatures game that involved combat between demon lords and their hordes. No miniatures were included (just cardboard standups), but a miniature line was developed for it later. It's been published in several countries/languages and I think it's still in print in Dutch.

For more about Inferno, visit http://www.theminiaturespage.com/rules/fan/inferno.html

Some examples of the figures:

Inferno was still in production by Global Games Europe, which was in turn taken over by Amazon Miniatures. You can see a complete list of their miniatures here:

http://www.amazonminiatures.com/catalogue_fantasy/inferno.htm

The good news is that if you can find those figures, they're compatible with the new Abyss d20. Which leads me to...

The "Abyss," a role-playing game based on the miniature rules. One of the biggest criticisms of the original Abyss game is that it felt like an incomplete rules system. That's because it relied so heavily on the original miniature rules from Inferno. Conversion to d20 should fix a lot of those problems.

The cover is, in fact, from the Abyss RPG, not the boxed set (which has a different cover).

I bought the book when it first came out -- thought the concept was wonderful, the rules horrible. The interior art was also uneven -- some good some horrible in a Diablo-fannish sort of way

Yes, the art was uneven. Some very good but most pretty poor. We will be re-using a few of the better pieces but essentially are starting over.

These rules are far more substantial than the original. Michael has done a tremendous job in adapting the original material to Dante's Inferno and d20 revised. This will be a nice hardcover.

With the higher focus on miniature use in 3.5 than ever before, any chance we'll see any recast of those miniatures? The only one I ever bought was Arioch, and that was because of the name as opposed to how it looked.

Always meant to get around to buying 'em but...
