D&D 5E Jug of Potions magic item.

This is just a rough draft, is it OP as is?


Jug of Potions:
Can hold 10 potions
Bonus action to decide what potion is "active".
Can combine some potions such as healing potions, two normal healing potions (2d4+2) combine into one potion (4d4+4).

Jug of Potions (Attunement Required)

The Jug can hold up to 10 different or similar potions.

Bonus action to make a potion 'active' (drinkable), you don't need to be attuned to the Jug to drink a potion from it.

On a short rest you can use the Jug to combine potions that are in the Jug. You can combine any number of potion on a short rest. Combining Healing potions makes the next higher level of Healing potion. Combining say a potion of Water Breathing and a potion of Invisibility you need to roll on the Mixing Potions table on page 140 of the DMG, otherwise you get the benefit of both potions. (attunement required for this portion of the Jugs abilities)

Potions can be poured out of the Jug into potion vials.

Holding the Jug lets you know what potions there are in the Jug. (attunement required)

I don't see anything OP about it.

Combining is fairly powerful. Double the potency costs significantly more than double the gold. It won't necessarily break anything, but it's definitely something you're going to want to keep in mind (for example, it might not be a good idea to allow a group with this item to purchase unlimited healing potions in town).

I might be more inclined to allow this jug to combine two dissimilar potions. For example, a healing potion and a potion of giant strength that can be quaffed as a single action. It would allow for some potentially interesting strategic planning, and interesting combos. If abuse is a concern, you could throw in potion miscibility rules to discourage overuse.

You should implement the "Mixing Potions" table on page 140 of the DMG if you're going that route. Otherwise I think it's too powerful.
