How would you rule it?
If you were in the Far Realm, fighting, and floating in, sort of space, using your sheer will to move....
How would you rule the casting of meteor swarm if it was don't at an angle to catch targets in a line?

By a strict reading, it doesn’t work if there isn’t any ground for the meteors to strike. I doubt I would enforce that myself.

Bring the meteors in on intersecting paths from multiple directions, and have the strike happen where they collide.

The spell targets 4 separate 40 ft spheres. The visual of what that looks like doesn't really matter, personally I'd have them work like the flak cannons in those WW2 movies; they streak in and explode at a predefined point.

Ah, I see, so it's the explosion and fire that gets them.
Having them collide in.mid space seems awesome!
