I see a lot of really nice custom class/monster write ups around with the fonts, page layout and coloring right from the books.

Is there an easy way to achieve this or is everyone just that good with graphic design?

I maintain https://github.com/evanbergeron/DND-5e-LaTeX-Template. It is a LaTeX style package that I am using for the 5e War of the Burning Sky PDFs.

Pros:
* Allows full customization of styling that is separated from content
* Extensible
* Generate internal links, table of contents
* Content is stored as text files. So it works with your favorite version control system.
* Ability to generate PDF/A or PDF/X compliant PDFs.

Cons:
* Potentially steep learning curve from learning LaTeX.
