Game of thrones setting

ive been working on creating a GoT setting that changes up the character creation and campaign goals. I believe setting the game during the Age of hero timeline and changing the character creation to fit the setting would make a game that wouldn't brake canon and allow for free range of a westeros setting. im looking for any input or anyone willing to brain storm with on the game. its hasn't been done before with the 5e system so im going to take a go at and see what happens. I love the show and lore of the Got setting so i believe a well put together game that changes up the 5e rules a bit would be a great way to switch it up for veteran and new players to 5e. if these ideas interest you and you'd like to help or just shoot some ideas at me contact me via discord @danny phantom#5192

Hi. I do not suggest using 5e at all for a GoT game as there is too much to change.
Our group is currently using A Song of Ice and Fire Roleplaying: A Game of Thrones Edition by Robert J Schwalb.
It truly fits much better with the setting, you won't regret it.

Great idea, but remember GoT is very lowmagic. Although some of the Magic which does actually appear seems to be epic, there is not many casters except that priest guy who can make his sword flame, Bran and those Wildlings who have similar skills to enter other minds who is some in between of a specialist diviner and enchanter (possessor is prolly better) and the warlock/necromancer guys with the Tower.

That severly Limits your classes to fighter, ranger, rogue, diviner or is it some psionic Combo?, cleric/favoured soul (which Needs to be altered severely), warlock.

Races are different also you might want some idferent types of humans, Wildlings maybe those elf like creatures, heck maybe they be good casters, but thats about it.

I would presume that in a Game of Thrones campaign your profession is probably a lot more important than your class, since Game of Thrones is all about political intrigue.

And yes GoT is eventually better suited for roleplaying the politics than for recreating its epic combats, which are btw almost always mass combat Scenarios, there rarely are fights in Group size. Also there are not many nonhuman adversaries aka Monsters. Many combats are also very Environment specific, be it on ships, on the wall, sieges etc. there are few Special rules in 5th Edition so far to cover this..

Actually a very good fit for GoT is Conan:Adventures in an Age Undreamed Of. It's brutal and the magic is very, very similar. There is even a 'False Ressurection' spell like the one used on Kal Drogo for instance.

It would of course require some retrofitting (as all system will of course...) but most of it will work very nicely.

If you want to play in GoT with 5e rules, I cannot recommend enough Adventures in Middle-Earth 5e from Cubicle. Its made to be played in Middle-Earth, but the rules would fit perfectily:
- No-Magic, or very little. The Scholar is a perfect class for a Maester.
- A big emphasis on court relation with the system of Sanctuary (safe towns) and Audience (political meeting)
- Slow paced - the is made with the idea of one adventure per seasons, not fast paced dungeon delving
- Complete rules for traveling far distance in unsafe land, with more to do than just roll on random tables.
- No races, the different ''humans'' are split by their homeland, not their race (call culture). In this case you would have to refluff or create your own culture to base them on region or House.
- Rules for the corrupting of the soul with shadow point if your character falls to the darkness in his heart,

I would also add to this the rules for the 2 optional ability scores from the Dungeon Master Guide 5e: Honor and Sanity. To challenge your players on different aspect of GoT. Seing the work of the Walkers, First Men, Dragon etc would challenge sanity. Players in political gathering would require more Honor and Charisma Checks.
 

It’s for 3rd edition, but Dragon Magazine 307 has some D&D – Westeros information. And if you don’t have it already, The World of Ice and Fire is a big tome with a ton of historical details.
 

Personal suggestion.

Use an uchronia: Daenerys have won.
She rules the 7 kingdoms and have found a way to breed more dragons.
Magic become more and more available.
Old house try to use this new power to counterweight the queen's dragons.

This leave place to more usual DnD classes and character.
You get rid of actual plot to build new ones.
 

My first contact with "Song of Ice and Fire" was with the Spanish translation of the Dragon Magazine.

My suggestion is using a "mash-up", if you want add more things, and because like this you can give surprises to players who haven readen all the books and watched all episodes.
