D&D 5E The Mind of Femke (Level 1 Adventure)

Right, only second post so hopefully not taking too many liberties as I would just like feedback on this proposed once off adventure (it is more than welcome to be used in your own worlds if you wish).

Forgive me if a little disjointed and difficult to understand but if you can advise on possible things I have missed, I would love to get feedback on it.

Local child has been kidnapping animals and keeping them in the sewer for her own company owing to her being incredibly gifted as an undiscovered sorceress. She has disappeared from a local children's home and disappeared about 30 days ago. (players do not get told the time frames). Animals have been disappearing for the last 20 odd days.

They will have to investigate the local sector at times of the day to find out if they can find the child. The child will be possessed by a demon called a Quasit. The demon has formed a "friendship" (actual familiar) with the child and has slowly started corrupting it and brought her down to kidnapping animals and while it tries to get the child to kill the animals, the good nature of the child keeps it alive. Femke is her name. She summoned the Quasit because she developed her sorceress abilities and she was also very well known to be around the area as having a love for animals.

The Tavern the players will start in will be called the Holwing Hound. Earned it's name from the hound that goes by the name Bob. Bob would, at sunrise every morning, howl and moan until it's master got out of bed and fed it. A number of complaints had been laid but nobody really hated the dog as he was always friendly. Blatov owned the tavern. Has had the dog for nearly 12 years. Agapova is the waitress who will serve them and it is his daughter. They are both deeply in love with the animal and it went missing two weeks ago. They know about Femke and her love of the animals and they would often give her food to give to the dog to build their friendship. Femke would often, if not at the children's home, be at the tavern, snuggled up with Bob. It has been a while since they saw her and that was a week before Bob went missing. Even the local patrons are worried about Bob. Perception check of 13 to see if they notice the barmaid looking rather down and they can go from there. If they are able to diplomacy for 14 they can get a hint about the girl name Femke and her association with the animals and where they may be able to find the orphanage. Sadly, Agapova does not know so they will have to ask around the following day.

They will have to explore the sector a bit, called the Quarter of Hope. Called that as things are not as rough as the rest of the city. More of a community in this area than others. This is owing to the orphanage in the area and people getting tired of the way the rest of the city works. There has been a trend in the area that has swung a few of the local peoples. There is a lot of resistance from upper levels but that is another point. Orphanage is called Sanctuary of Hope.

They will have to make an investigation roll vs stealth roll on centipede (+5) to be able to find any clues in the room of the child at the orphanage and a pursuasion/intimidate roll of 15 as well to see if they can convince the head mother (Mother Njiljana). Otherwise they can bribe her (make a donation) or offer to spend a day with the children and tell them of exploits they have accomplished. See whether the children are excited or not. (Am I excited and intrigued by any of their stories).

During the course of this, they will have to roll a perception of 15 to see a little girl wandering around, looking for her lost kitten. The girls name is Murwu. She lost her kitten, called Nila. She will keep sobbing about it and just describe her kitten to them as a soft little ball of fur and happiness and they will see a little bit of joy as they look at her. If they offer to help, she will smile through tears. If they do not, she will just keep sobbing away and looking.

If they do find anything in the room with the centipede, I will just tell them that it looks odd. If they investigate any further, they will be able to find a couple of loose floor rocks under her bed and they will lead down into a cavern underneath the orphanage. The ground smell will overwhelm them and they will have to take a bit of a stop to just become acclimatised to it.

As they are going through the tunnel, they will encounter a couple of giant rats. 3 x Giant Rats.

They will also find that as they go forward, they will find that they tunnel twists and bends and they will find themselves cramped eventually and be dropped from 2 wide to 1 wide and go in a single file.

They will keep going until they find the entranceway to the room. They will have to make perception checks about 5 minutes away to see if they can hear Bob snarling. DC 15 for Bob snarling and 20 to hear the faint meowing of a kitten. DC 10 and they can hear a lot of animal noises. DC15 will allow them to know there are more than 20 and DC20 will give them a number over 40.

They will then see the room is lit, large and has a bunch of animals in it. Many of which are hurt and they can see the girl struggling with herself to not kill her first animal. They will see the knife quivering in her hand and they will see she is crying as it trembles as she holds the kitten in her hands. They can see it is Nila. They will see Bob growling at the Quasit and they will see the impish Quasit darting about as Bob growls and tries to snap at it.

Combat will happen and they will have to fight the Quasit. Going to make it have AC14 and 20HP and see how they hold up against it. Room is 60ft by 60ft.

Once they are done with this, they will have to do a group handle animal or try coax or feed them while one of them tries to approach her and calm her down. They can then get a proper count of there being 63 animals in total and they will then need to figure out how to get them out and what to do about them.

When they do eventually calm her down, DC14 persuasion, they will get her story: She felt a calling from the Quasit across the realms and it deceived her into summoning it. She was happy to have a friend and all went well for a couple of weeks but then she started to worry when the Quasit started asking her to do things but she was confused. She watched as he guided her down to the room and she watched as he brought her food and eventually he started kidnapping the animals. He became more threatening as time went on and today she was pushed to the point of where she was. Afraid of doing it but he threatened to hurt the other children if she did not do what he wanted. They can see she has not slept much in the last week or so and the rings under her eyes are showing the constant level of torture the child has been put under. She will look over at the quasit and see that it is dead and the communication is broken and her face will drop with a bit of relief.

They will then take her back and all the animals. They can decide what to do with the animals. They will also encounter the first of the race of unknowns as they are recruiting for a larger purpose as one of them has gone rogue and they are preparing a massive ritual to do the protection and the child, Femke is critical. He will only come when they have been able to rescue the child.

History Check to see if they have ever heard of the race. Describe race as dark skinned, almost ashen in colour. Eyes that shift in and out of this plane and vary in colour if they make DC20 perception check. If they get the history check of DC25, they will be able to tell that there is a rumour of the race existing from the beginning of the world and they are the creators of the gods and races. There are but a few and they are only encountered when gathering knowledge or in times of peril. They do not care for the affairs of most mortals. They communicate telepathically but none of them know this. They drop themselves to a common tongue and their names are not pronounceable in any form.
