Kalorn frowned. That they didn't know where Maccath was would have been plausible, but this was *not* an long-forgotten wreck. The chief had over-lied. He hoped Mord could counter effectively - fighting this lot wouldn't achieve much.

Mord studied the situation to the best of his ability. His language spell seemed to be mildly ineffective in this situation. He understood the words, but there were none of the usual queues he might pick up on to catch them in the lies. Fortunately, Sesto seemed to have ferreted out their motives.

He considered the situation for a moment and then sat forward to speak again.

"Very well, we shall take you up on your generous offer. But we will go to see this ship first. Even if it not the one we seek, perhaps we can learn something from it."

It would not do for a great and powerful mage to ask from some lowly chieftain. And thus, the statement was made with all of the arrogance of one of such power.

Legend
The shaman woman, called Bonecarver, stood and offered to escort the group to the ship, insisting that she would see them return to their ship when they were satisfied. (This was translated by Loklafd). The village champion, Orcaheart, appeared to eye her with suspicion and suggested that he would go as well, but after a short argument between them, Chief Barking Seal sided with the shaman and ordered the warrior to remain in the village.

The talks hadn't gone well. Mord struggle to convince the chief to admit to anything. And the possibility of a dragon lurking in the deep hole concerned him too.
On the way to the ship, Sesto spoke quietly to Mord about the chief's blatant lies. Sesto also pointed out the possibility that a dragon might lurk in the hole and that it has the tribe in its clutches to do its bidding. If the we could gain favour with the tribe then maybe we could help them with the dragon problem, Sesto finished.
Sesto wondered if it was the white dragon that they heard of before...

While exiting the meeting hall, Lorenn uses his mage hand to drop something (like a whalebone or a skull on a metallic plate) in one corner of the room, making a distraction to let Eko fly down the hole while everyone looks toward the noise.

Mord watched the confrontation with perceived lack of interest, even insisting that they need no guide to find a stranded ship on the ice. He didn't argue the point too hard though, and in the end relented.

Then, they were off. He listened to Sesto's comments as they walked and nodded slightly in response. Once he was sure that they were far enough away from the village and any prying ears, he asked the shaman, through Lokladf to translate some more. Starting with; "What 'can' you tell us of this stranded ship?"

Legend
Lorenn made a distraction while the group exited the Village Hall, and Eko his owl familiar flew from her hidden perch near the smoke-hole in the roof. She dove into the hole in the floor and flew down an icy shaft. Bones had been frozen into the ice-walls of the shaft, creating a cross between a ladder and a treacherous spiral staircase. While she flew, Imani's agents exited the large structure through a heavy skin door-flap, followed by the villagers. The bitter cold hit the southerners as the wind whipped across the icy plateau and they began their decent toward the sea.

Mord, still impersonating Andruss the Dusk, spoke first privately to Sesto, and then to the shaman Bonecarver, asking her about the ship. She spread her hands and grunted, as if they could see very well for themselves. But there seemed to Mord to be more to it than that, as if she had other things on her mind.

Sesto saw it too and moreover, the insightful cleric felt that she faced an internal struggle: Would she stay loyal to her village and chief and continue the ruse to rid them of these dangerous strangers, or would she speak the truth? To Sesto, her body language showed the struggle plainly, but he could not tell which choice she would make.

OOC: Lorenn is limited to 100 feet to communicate with Eko, right? They'll be further than that apart very quickly.
