    In 3.5E, I added the half-dragon template to a monstrous spider. Then instead of having it breathe fire, it would vomit forth a teeming, twitching swarm of spiders instead.

    My players never recovered from that visual.

    I turned the tradaditional Fey/Elves into crashlanded Greys who use solid-light holography to look like elves of legend, and other high tech like stasis fields to account for the nonstandard passage of time in “Underhill” (the buried remains of their ship) and weapons that seemed like spells.

    (Yes, before SG-1 introduced the Asgardians.)
