Yesterday, Modiphius announced its partnership with BioWare's James Ohlen, Jesse Sky and Drew Karpyshyn:

"Legendary creative team re-unites BioWare lead designers James Ohlen and Jesse Sky (Neverwinter Nights, Dragon Age: Origins, Baldurs Gate I & II, Knights of the Old Republic and Star Wars: The Old Republic) with Drew Karpyshyn, BioWare senior writer on Mass Effect I & II and Knights of the Old Republic under the banner ARCANUM WORLDS.

At the dawn of time, a war between gods and titans left the landscape of Thylea forever changed. Thousands of years later, the first mortals arrived by ship and by dragon.

The Dragonlords were the champions who threw down the titans 500 years ago and forged the Oath of Peace. But the power of the oath has waned, and the titans seek vengeance.

You are one of the heroes called by prophecy to end this conflict once and for all. Poets will sing of your exploits for centuries to come... if you survive to tell the tale.

Modiphius Entertainment has signed a worldwide co-publishing deal to support the newly formed Arcanum Worlds team with marketing, logistics and production expertise, allowing them to focus on creating an incredible new world. The Arcanum Worlds team are preparing to run a Kickstarter for the lavish hardcover adventure book and with Modiphius support will be launching once the book is ready to go to print.

Arcanum Worlds have launched a free 28-page Player’s Guide to Odyssey of the Dragonlords PDF now available from Modiphius.net and DriveThruRPG. You’ll be able to read more about the world and get a taste of what’s to come.

Between the three of them, they have an incredible list of credits from some of the most legendary adventure games. James Ohlen spent over 20 years as lead designer and creative director at BioWare working on Baldur’s Gate I & II, Knights of the Old Republic, Star Wars: The Old Republic, Dragon Age: Origins and Neverwinter Nights. Jesse Sky has 8 years as lead designer and creative director at BioWare working on Star Wars: The Old Republic and it’s expansions Galactic Strongholds, Shadow of Revan and Knights of the Fallen Empire.

“What if I could return to what I did decades ago, but apply it to the pen and paper games that inspired Baldur’s Gate? It would be a way to give back to the community that inspired my career, and it would be a way to work on something that gave me the fulfillment I craved.” - James Ohlen, Writer & Designer on Odyssey of the DragonLords and lead designer of Baldur’s Gate."

There really should be a size between large and medium, say big. They kind of do that with races like Goliths, Bugbears, Firbolgs, Ravnican Centaurs, but a trait like that shouldn't be needed, it's existance shows a major gap in the size choice, Big. It should go Tiny, Short (Gnomes, Kobolds, Halflings, Kinder,
ect...), Medium (Humans, Elves, Dwarves, Tieflings, Aasimar, Warforged, Changelings, Genasi, ect...), Big (Goliaths, Firbolgs, Bugbears, Centaurs, Horses, Dire Wolves, Sabretooth tiger, Pegasi, ect...), large (Orges, Trolls, ect...), Huge, Guaguanan.

This would help with soooo many issues.

I'm fine with large PCs, the larger weapon rules have been silly since around 3E.

I just finished reading this PDF. It will make for an excellent setting... The writing is very clear and the art is fantastic. I think there is a lot of potential with this setting!

I've also enjoyed the little Easter Eggs that I've found so far:

1. Volkan, God of the Forges (wise tinkerer sometimes portrayed as a bearded dwarf) is "rumored to travel through the Heartlands on the winter solstice, distributing toys and sweets to children." (Santa)

2. Gygans - the originators who were displaced by a newer company... Ahem... I mean a newer edition... Cough! Sorry, I mean a newer civilization. Some groups have splintered off from the newer edition/religion to pay homage to the "old school ways" of the original Titans.

Normally, I dislike such meta-references (it tends to disrupt my suspension of disbelief), but for some reason, these references struck me as amusing.

I got an email about this the other day, looking forward to the full realise. Like pukunui, I think the satyr needed something else, just one more decent ability I think would balance it out.
Proficiency with pan pipes is a necessity.

I got most of the way through reading this today. I'm really impressed by what I see, and definitely intend to pick it up once the physical book and PDF launch.

This looks really cool. This seems to be a setting designed to tell a particular story with the PCs at the center of it all and which will likely leave the setting forever changed. That's pretty cool when compared to most published settings which seem to be more static affairs and where any large-scale change is done off-screen by NPCs.

That's why I'm excited about it too! I love the idea of Bioware producing these "One and done" settings built for a specific, fresh campaign.

Along with StephenFry's excellently accessible Mythos book (which details all the Greek myths in a very friendly and easy to read way).

There's a Greek restaurant in Queens named Mythos. It specializes in seafood and is next door to an aquarium store... um. I went there and, of course, ordered squid and octopus. I mean, well, duh.
