Miniature scale creep is out of control!!!!!

Its madness!!!

At this point is Reaper 32mm in all but name? The newer guys I've bought were so big they really don't fit in with real 28mm stuff. And my 25mm stuff is pretty much only useful for hobbits. Using my Perry and Crusader historical stuff looks so off as they are more realisticlly proportioned and honest 28mm scale. But I appreciate that the D&D minis out now are not nutty big. Of course they also look tiny compared to the Reaper stuff.

Tips for good manufacturers for honest 28mm fantasy figures for PC types in metal?

Bummer than I'm writing of Reaper for things other than monsters.

Ok, needed to vent.

whew.

I'd also like to know if there are any good "general fantasy" mini makers who use metal. Seems like everywhere I turn everyone's turning plastic.

Red box games - lots of old school style metal figures http://red-box-games.com/

Dark Sword miniatures make a lot of fantastic character figures. https://www.darkswordminiatures.com/

Lots of metal figures out there - you just have to dig a little more these days.

edit: BTW, I have ordered from all of these places and I have been satisfied with their service.

I was becoming aware of this issue in the early 90's when 28mm started replacing the 25mm standard for fantasy minis. Once size creep begins, forever will it dominate your destiny.,

I feel like GW led the way on scale creep. Look at a skaven from 1989 versus one from 2004 to one today. It is amazing the size difference. Line them up and it looks like a graphic for a Skaven life cycle! ;)

Isn't the new Age of Signmar actually listed as 32mm now? When using 28mm 3d terrain these huge minis just don't work. At GaryCon I was playing Chainmail with 40mm figs and at first I had to make sure they weren't Reaper....

Thankfully Otherworld is still solid 28mm for figs. Just wish I could get them at the local store, but then again the local shops really only carry Bones these days which I don't use for PC models so its internet ordering in any event.

Wargames Foundry produces quite a few ranges of 28mm figures. A lot of the historicals work well in fantasy games too.
