Episode 3 and Revisions

Greetings to all the Star Wars players,
I have a question that needs your assistance. I really want to get into the Star Wars RPG, after all look at my childhood. But I was wondering something, when Episode 3 comes out what is this going to do with the RPG books. I am pretty sure in my searching of the gaming alse I saw new revisions after each movie. I could be mistaken of course but when Episode 3 does get here what will happen, does anyone know. I was wondering if wizards has said anything or if it is already known in the community. I plan on waiting for Episode 3 to come out then I will get my books, that way if any revisions occur I will have the new stuff. But that could change depending on what is said here, let me know all and thanks for your help.

Really, D20 Star Wars was only revised in much the same way DnD was revised to 3.5... It wasn't because of the new movie, as far as I know. Unless Lucas forces it down their throat, I suspect all we will see for Ep 3 is a sourcebook.

Can we NOT put it past LucasCo to force WotC to revise? :)

My advice, the book is good, worth buying. Even if it does get
revised, it's one of the better d20 games. :)

I was under the impression (and I don't follow the Star Wars RPG closely, so I could easily be wildly wrong) that Lucas pretty much said "there will be a new printing of the core book with Episode 2 artwork", and WotC took the opportunity to revise the game while they were at it. If that's correct, then there will certainly be a new printing for Episode 3, but I suspect it would be almost unchanged except for art and errata.

Well, the revised rules came out in 2002, I think.

Eps 3 is not till when...2005? I think I'd be able to save up $30-40 USD
to buy the new book buy then. ;)

Yeah, from what I read of posts by WotC-ers, it was mandated on high by Lucas that there would be a revision to take Ep2 into account, as part of their contract.

I wouldn't be too surprised if he pulled it again with Ep3. It wouldn't be absolutely terrible... they could incorporate a few changes that happened since d20Modern and Unearthed Arcana, and it would give them a reason to condense the current group of books. I don't think the starships book was ever revised to take the new ship combat system into account, for instance.

i'm pretty sure drothgery has it right -- Lucasfilm mandated a new printing of the game; it was WOTC's own idea to do a revision.

i'm guessing that there will again be a new printing for Episode III, but i doubt there will be another major overhaul of the rules. most likely just new artwork, and perhaps new stats for the inevitable new species, vehicles, droids, and weapons of the new movie.

i wouldn't wait until Episode III to get into the Star Wars RPG. that's two years away! go ahead and buy the Revised Core Rulebook now and you can do a whole campaign before the next movie comes out. :)

Lucasfilm did demand a new printing of the core rulebook with expansive material from the Ep II. It was WotC's initiative to make a revised rules based on the many feedback of the original ruleset posted in many messageboards (mainly theirs). One of them is the criticism of the abstract starship combat rules (It is the item that I added my voice to it). The other is the lack of a "technical" class.

IMHO, it was a good business move.

I am unsure if there will be another revision. There is a growing vocal movement to revise the tech specialist class. Others wanted a chase system resembling Spycraft (if they can do it without help from AEG).

Ah cap looks like i'm buying a new game

I have been really thinking about getting it anyway, I mean come on it is Star Wars after all. And after the new year I probably will break down and get it. I do want to know one thing, I have always wanted to do this in SW. Is it possible in the rules to use your lightsaber as a big can opener on doors. Just messing around and thank you all for your information.

The Equipment section's writeup of the lightsaber says it takes "time and effort" to slice open blast doors, but yes... the "Attack An Object" section under Combat includes wooden doors, metal doors and blast doors.
