Why do many people post internet addresses in their sigs w/o the hyperlink?

Why do some people, notably some publishers who post here, post internet addresses in their sigs w/o the hyperlink? I supposed this is done using the {code} tags. Is there some advantage in this.

Sometimes I find it frustrating. As a newshound I"m often surfing the d20 Publisher's forum and looking for updates from publishers.

Spambot don't need a working link to harvest an email adress.

I think John refers to http adresses, not email ones.

Lazyness, or tech-unsavvyness, I think, is the answer. They just copy/paste it, and since the sig is not parsed for links like posts are, it stays plain text.

For the tech-unsavvy, just add [url] and [/url] around your URL. Without spaces between the the tags and the adress.

I am referring to http addresses.

I didn't know that sigs aren't paresed for links.

Still I'm not so sure it's tech-unsavvyness. I know Chris Pramas and Monte Cook both have their sigs this way. I could be wrong but I think it's by design.

could be a problem with cut and paste from whatever text program they used.

It could also be a bit of a manners/protocol thing.

Example:

I am Joe Bigwig Game Designer. Everybody knows my name. I have three articles in Dragon this month, I wrote the latest WotC book, and the world is anxiously awaiting my latest ouvre: Pizza Chef d20 (compatible with RIFTS and Synnibar). If I go over to someone else's website or even ENWorld and include a link to my company, it coule be percieved as spammish. In other words, people might not think I'm posting as a game developer, but as a cheap PR stunt. So I don't use the HTML. It acts as mild barrier to folks outright clicking through so the sig is less of an ad and more of a real signature.

Just a thought.
