D&D 5E Does anyone who got an mm at Gencon want to offer up spoilers to us?

Shadows have always done str damage. Thankfully, it should be easier since you don't have 1 1/2 str mods, multiple skill mods (with armor check) and bull strength all mucking up the math. On an exception-based system like this, I can handle it.

So this raises a semi-interesting question: if you wear gauntlets of ogre power, are you unaffected by strength drain until you take them off?

Oh, and the art is gorgeous. The book is very pretty to look at.

The quotes they give each monster can be pretty corny at times. The Pixie quote is this: "Acorn caps and petal gowns, are so last summer." - Rivergleam, Pixie Fashionista

Well there's one odd retcon in there. Rakshasa are now specifically linked to and originate in the 9 Hells, rather than previously an implied link to Acheron. That seems an unnecessary change.

The particular change to succubi/incubi is a somewhat IMO awkward attempt to reconcile the 1e/2e/3e demons with the rather unfortunate 4e devil placement. That's a shame. I'd have glossed over the 4e content and made them explicitly demons again, with some added text that some of their kind may be corrupted from CE and found in the service of powerful devils.

See, that is exactly the kind of stuff I don't get. Why would they do that? Who stands to gain from this change?

Thanks for the previews so far.

I have a question to add, if I might: Erinyes: pre-4E, or wingless engines of death and destruction?

If I remember well, this was voted on Wizards' site: "succubi: demons or devils?". And, I think that "both" was the winner, so the succubi here is supposed to go with the majority of voting people :)

Thanks so much for those images. I'm blown away by the look of this book.

Any chance we could see the Lich? I hear the 5e version is scarily powerful and I would love to see what that is all about.

Blue dragon: Primarily desert, but also "dry steppes, searing badlands, and rocky coasts."

So, both, but more desert.

Lich: I won't reprint the stat block, but a few teases:

CR 21. 18th-level spellcaster. Legendary abilities. Lair abilities, including the ability to roll a d8 and regain a spent spell slot of that level or below.

Some of these monsters are EXTREMELY dangerous! The mummy rot is nasty! Mummies are only a CR3 creature, but a cleric needs to be 5th level to get Remove Curse. A party better know ahead of time what they are up against, or they will be sorely pressed not to have some players permanently killed, especially if they are days away from higher level Cleric NPCs.

Nice!
