[S.S.] Ghaele

This can be of any creature that can cast spells as a spellcaster.

Lets say I play a Ghaele (ECL 20) that can cast spells as a 14th level Cleric. Now lets say I hit 21st level and take a level in Cleric. Do I:

Gain casting as a 1st level Cleric?

Gain casting as a 15th level Cleric?

Something else?

Not sure if this is address in Savage Species

I think it is, and I think you'd cast spells as 15th level if I'm not mistaken.

I'm not sure if it is in SS, but WotC has published several adventures with dragons taking levels of sorcerer which improve their natural casting ability, so the official position seems to be that it does.

Thanks, I am thinking of playing a Ghaele, starting at Level 13, but it may come into play over the next year

Savage Species does specifically address this question (pg. 18). Creatures which cast spells as a specific class and which also pick up levels in the same class, stack the class levels for spellcasting purposes. So a water naga Sor3 casts spells as a Sor10, since water nagas normally cast spells as a Sor7.
