Thornbury is smaller even than Hengistbury Village, boasting a mere 100 souls. Even so, there is a friendly rivalry between the villages, which manifests every year in a popular local sporting competition.

A few miles upriver from Hengistbury, travel between the two is not uncommon. For a silver coin, a local fisherman can be persuaded to ferry passengers in either direction. The journey takes a couple of hours.
