Software, Computers, Video Games and D&D UtilitiesGeneral discussion on computer software and hardware, PC and console games, and RPG utilities such as eTools, PC GEN, etc.
I am now on to Phantasy Star IV, which means clearing up my old-school list is nearly complete. And, AFAIC, Phantasy Star IV is the only Phantasy Star worth playing. I was tremendously disappointed with 1-3 (I actually consider them those to be out-and-out bad), but IV is the one game worthy of the supposed "Phantasy Star" pedigree.
With my Wife: Rock Band (PS3), now getting into the world tour mode.
With my buddy: Warhawk (PS3).
Just my wife: She's almost finished Final Fantasy VIII (PS1), which she has really enjoyed (though not as much as FF7).
Lately, Mass Effect (360). Pretty good, even if the Mako has control issues and the planet-based sidequests are way too repetitive (I'm avoiding this with my second run by ignoring sidequests that don't yield anything useful).
It was one of two games I got with my 360 (the other was Lost Odyssey, which I played through right away). But basketball and spring television post-strike meant I didn't go right on to the next game, so my console had been sitting idle for a while.
Finished Mass Effect (PC) twice. Played Bring Down the Sky (free downloadable expansion). Great game if you liked KotOR! My only gripe is the lack of modding tools, and therefore community content.
Back to NWN2 that does have a modding toolset, which means loads of modules. Playing Dark Waters 1 and 2 right now. If you like RP and an original system, try it out.
Shelved Age of Conan. Got a character at 80, another at 46. Great game, but lacking content in the upper halves of each 10 levels, which means you need to grind. Not happening, I'll be back when the new stuff comes out.
I gave up on Assassin's Creed. Wow factor that lasts 5 minutes and then way too boring.
Eve Online in the background, as usual.

Is Phantsay Star IV the one where they could do combo attacks?
If it is the same game, my friend and I didn't know that you could combo when we rented the game decades ago and we found one of the combos by accident... wow, we were shocked by the coolness. I wish a game would do that now But, yeah, that was an awesome game.

It will have campaign logs and random thoughts...
Got a used copy of Gauntlet Dark Legacy for PS2 about a week ago, so I'm having fun with that.

That is indeed the one. You can combine two or more spells and/or skills and get a unique effect (Zan + Wat = Blizzard; Zan + Foi = Firestorm... that's all I've got so far).
PSIV is such an improvement over the first three (which were painful to play through) that it's just amazing. So far, PSIV is tremendously fun. Great story, great pace, and [amazing for the Genesis and PS series] pretty good graphics. Lots of neat little bells and whistles too (e.g. "talk" to your group anywhere in the field and they have cool little conversations that serve to remind you what's going on, what you have to do next, and why).
(Aside: Heh, decades ago. I've got a long, long ways to go before I catch up with my game collection... )
PC: Neverwinter Nights twice a week (and building a new campaign in the toolset), plus the occasional Company of Heroes skirmish.
360: Rock Band, and various XBLA titles. I was playing the Tiger Woods 07 game that I bought someone else as a gift, so I'm thinking of picking up the 09 version when it comes out later this month.
Well, my stint with Civilization Revolutions is done. Got all the XBox achievements except for the ones on deity setting, which were just too much of an exercise in frustration to bother with. Wish they'd spread the achievements around a bit more.
Now it's a waiting game. Waiting for Too Human next week, which will probably be pretty good.
Then at the end of the end of month it's Mercenaries 2, which may well be the best co-op sandbox game ever.
Been burned on RPG's lately, but Infinite Undiscovery looks like it'll be worth a try, despite the stupid name.
After that, there's a little game you might have heard of called Star Wars: The Force Unleashed.
And then comes October, god help XBox 360 gamers everywhere. Far Cry 2, Fallout 3, Fable 2, Saints Row 2, Dead Space, Fracture, and so many more.
Too many more, in fact. Game publishers are so damn dumb. Console gamers spent the majority of the year in a vast wasteland of no AAA titles. So many of them were paralyzed with terror at the thought of competing with GTA IV that they tried to give themselves months worth of breathing room. They all wound up hovering around October, and didn't want to push back any farther so that they could cash in on the holiday season. But if everybody's saturating the market during the holiday season does that really work?
So in summary: right now playing nothing, next week playing Too Human, in two months will be hoping for some awful injury so that I can live off of disability for a few months at least.

Soul Calibur IV. Mixed feelings about it, really. Haven't had time to play anything else, unfortunately.
I'm hoping for a *lot* more dlc, especially in certain areas. Apart from any other reason, I (actually, we) unlocked everything within a few days. Time will tell, I suppose.
I just beat Final Fantasy Tactics A2: Grimoire of the rift, followed by a record pace, for me at least of Final Fantasy IV. I had never actually beat it on the super nintendo so it was good to see the ending but I question the replay value of New Game + when the first run was so easy. Each successive run makes it that much easier as characters get to keep any augments you gave them, such as level lust that doubles experience points gained for all characters. Except for a game like Chrono Trigger with oodles of different endings I question the new game+ option in any RPG.
At the moment I am in an unfortunate holding pattern on video games. Next month though it'll start up strong. Force Unleashed in September, Highlander in October, Fall Out 3 in November, and then Final Fantasy 13 and 13 VS in December.
