Dawn of War 2: Have you checked out the new trailer?

Okay... I thought it was awesome just with the Eldar and the Marines but THQ added the last bit to the trailer where the Marine Sergeant has to fight a Tyranid Lictor (of course we all know how that one will turn out). I am so psyched for the new Dawn of War... I think Starcraft 2 might actually have some serious competition. The in game video footage of the Tyranids looks very impressive. I can't wait to hear the wailing of Starcraft fanboys when they start screaming that the Tyranids are a rip-off of the Zerg when it is actually the other way around (though the Tyranids are off course themselves a rip-off of Alien).

I never pre-order games but I might have to make an exception on this one.

The problem with DoW2 for players of the current DoW (with expansions) was "Why would I want to play a game that has fewer races compared with what I have now?". Sure the graphics look a little better, but if that was it, then personally I wouldn't really see the attraction. I just haven't seen or heard anything about what they 'improved' beyond the graphics, except some vague comment from the lead developer about elements they used and improved upon from CoH, but as I haven't played that game yet, it didn't really mean anything to me.

Now they've shown us a new race, the Tyranids, buying DoW2 will be worth it for that feature alone ;-)

I'm curious if the modding community will be able to quickly import the older DoW models into the new game, that way we could have the best of both worlds...

They've explained the changes to the singleplayer campaign in detail to places like IGN. Part of it is elimination resource management and using smaller, fixed amounts of units that depend on strategy rather than numbers (which is what they mean when they refer to CoH), and part of it is the integration of more RPG-like mechanics, such as going on "quests" and obtaining new, better items to equip your squads with.

So we're pretty well informed on that aspect. It's the multiplayer component that's still a big question mark.

I think the only information about multiplayer is that it will use Microsoft Live service instead of Relic Online. I really hope they are able to pull a good multiplayer this time...

Sounds interesting.

The resource acquisition quickly becomes irrelevant in Dawn of War (admittedly, I don't fight the AI on the higher levels- I am still a little more too "casual" for that).

I don't know if I like the RPG-like mechanics part with going on quests, but that depends on the actual implementation.

I really enjoyed Dawn of War, and own all supplements expansions. I also found the "Risk"-style campaigns in the last 2 expansions very nice for the replay factor, though I am also always a sucker for a "real" story-line in games, too. Command & Conquer (minus Generals) and Starcraft have been my favorites for that reason.
