Software, Computers, Video Games and D&D UtilitiesGeneral discussion on computer software and hardware, PC and console games, and RPG utilities such as eTools, PC GEN, etc.
I was recently given a PowerBook G4 from someone who was not computer literate (plus the mac was given them some issues, they got it from someone else freely too), and had the idea of using this to display my character sheet information instead of printing everytime I update my sheet.
I am currently using Heroforge on my Windows PC, since it incorporates alot of information, and was wondering if there is something similar to Heroforge for the MacOS. I dont want to virtually run a copy of XP just to get this functioning, but if push comes to shove, I will.
I noticed theres alot of programs like PCGen and D&D Manager, but they dont have a user friendliness like Heroforge.
I haven't personally used it, but CrystalBall comes to mind.

It doesnt work on a Mac. Hence why I made this post and mentioned I use Heroforge on my Windows PC. And I said I didnt want to virtually run WinXP via virtualpc or vmware unless I really had to.
Isn't Heroforge just an elaborate Excel spreadsheet?
You can buy Office for Mac. I know, because I have office on my Mac Pro.
I've tried various character generating programs for my gaming, but nothing ever worked for me, personally. I find it's much simpler with a pencil and paper, but I figured I'd chime in as a Mac guy.

It is, but the latest Office on Mac to support VBA is 2004, and thats based no Excel 97 from what I heard. 2008 dropped VBA, but I heard the next Office will be on par with the Windows version of Office's VBA.
Ah, I gotcha now. I use Office v.X (2001), so Heroforge still works. It does crash when I try to add an inherent gain to Wisdom for my cleric, but otherwise I don't have a problem with it.
You could also try Darwine (the WINE port for Mac OS), which would let you install a PC version of Office without having to run a full virtual machine and install Windows. You'd still have to have a copy of Office. Darwine - News
A coworker of mine buys old software at garage sales and Goodwill, so if you have a hard time finding a copy try those places.

Yeah, I'd like to use HeroForge on my mac, but it does have that crashing problem. Other versions for other games have worked better for me, and Spellforge works fine.

Looks like my theories now to get this working is to find a x86 emulator, or use remote desktop into a PC. The only x86 emulator I have found is Q Q - [kju. I really didnt want to go this route, but I will try installing Win2k (since Office 2003 will work on it and everyone recommends Win2k with emulation).
Did you try Darwine? It's an application compatability layer that lets you run windows apps on Macs, without needing windows installed. It's free. It'll still be slow because you've got a PPC laptop, but there's no way to get around that.
