Now they just got to get that whole Red Ring of Death problem fixed.

The current models ('Falcon') are not likely to suffer from the RRoD, AFAIK. That's the type I have, and yeah, no issues so far. I just don't hear of them, either.
Interestingly, there might be another die-shrink on its way ('Jasper'), this time for the GPU, also to 65nm. Accordingly, a new lower power PSU will ship, sooner or later. The whole thing will run cooler, use less power, and - most likely - be even more reliable over the long term. Definite confirmation would be nice, but still.

Speaking of the PSU, I think they have improved it already. My launch console came with a significantly larger power brick and thicker cords than the current one.

Yeah, same here. Well, I have the more recent type, not both.
An even lower power one than the current (which is itself for an improved model), is what I was trying to say, if not very well.
I heard that prices for widescreen LCD monitors (particularly around the 22" and 24" mark, I think) are on their way down, now or very soon. They're already pretty affordable, IMO, unless you go for screens much larger than that. But hey, hopefully the rumours are true, as well.
Isn't there a hdmi-to-dvi adapter you can get from say Radio Shack?
Yes.

I don't know about prices at retail stores, but every report I've seen says the cheap cables from monoprice.com work just fine (and you can find relatively inexpensive cables at Amazon, for that matter). I've got a 360 Elite, so it came with an HDMI cable, otherwise I may well have tested this myself.

Wait. I will need a separate audio cable, too, right?
It seems the price of lcds is pretty low right now. I still get the feeling that for only a little bit more you can get a much larger TV (22" versus 32", for example); decisions, decisions.
