Are there any sights where I can find free terrain downloads for 3rd ed. I want to print them out in scale and then laminate them as its much cheaper than buying the 15$ cardboard cut outs.

(Heh, I think he meant "sites". )

You'd kill trees for that? My recommendation is to visit the site heruca recommended (and a bunch of others, as found by GoogleImages) and use an online tool. Either heruca's BG2 or RPTools MapTool or any of a variety. Many can be used in "face-to-face" mode where a single computer and an external monitor can act as an infinitely sized encounter area.
