Good stuff, Kenku17.

Is anyone going to create a character? I've put together a few things for you to run through already so I am ready to go whenever you all have characters ready.

Okay, since we have a cleric, I'm going to go with my dwarf. . . I was leaning towards him anyways. I'll write up his background tomorrow, and hopefully put together the character over the weekend.

One other idea that came to me, is a unifying element for our characters.

I don't know if you already have something planned for this Airwalkrr, so if you do, feel free to ignore this suggestion. But the Kenku's post brought my mind back to Narovan and the Dawn House, and I thought an interest opening for the campaign would be to have us all come up with one reason or another why our character is out at night in Narovan. From there we get a chase scene where we each try and avoid an assassin on our tails before we all meet up inside the Dawn House, a group of strangers brought together by the vagaries of fate (or the hidden plans of the Lawgiver, depending on your personal leaning).

. . . reminds me of an exchange I once had with a Star Wars GM.

Or, alternatively. . . Great minds think alike!

Nearly ready. Do you want us to post directly to the RG?

Meanwhile...

The Test of Bees

In rural communities the church of the Lawgiver is frequently accompanied by bee hives. The local akolite, should the community be lucky enough to support one, will frequently expound upon the nature of bees: 'Bees embody the Law. Their actions are precise and ordered...' The sermon will continue in this vein for some time until the akolite wraps up with: '...following the Law holds honey-sweet reward,' or a similar sentiment.

Bees do hold a purpose for akolites beyond honey production and metaphor. Bees are 'ordered' and cannot abide the presence of the 'disordered' becoming agitated whenever someone who has recently touched or been touched by chaos is present. An akolite, knowing this propensity in bees, will sometimes carry a 'bee-box'.(1) When near a dream creature, a chaos-wizard, or the like, the bee will become agitated, flap their wings in a distressed manner, and cause the box to rattle and buzz announcing the dangerous presence.

(1) A small wooden sphere designed to hold living bees. Many are ornately carved and painted and some even inlaid with gold and precious gems. Bees and bee-boxes were so predominant in the age immediately following the Dreamer that the bee has joined the book as symbol of the church of the Lawgiver.

Funny story, hafrogman. Heh, heh, deathcube.

Characters can go right to the RG if you wish. You have a pretty long leash anyway. I'm interested to see what you come up with.

As promised, I've posted my character background in the RG. If you have time, read it over and let me know what you think. I'll work on the crunch this weekend.

The short version for those who don't have time to read:

Kylest is an ex-gladiator/slave, freed by orcish whim. Raised in isolation, long after the fall of Stonheim, he holds no place in his heart for his oppressed dwarven kin or their history. But he is nonetheless haunted by some lingering racial memory, and those left behind under the orcish rule.

I think hafrogman has a pretty good idea of what I mean when I say that I encourage you each to find something in this campaign you can take and make it your own. Don't feel obligated with anything so extensive (and don't expect the exact same reward), but if you are into writing up backgrounds, his write-up is a good paradigm of what I like to see.

My Character is Up in RG. Not a big background, but it does tell his origins. If you want a little more on the farmers, ill try to work something out...

Kenku17, I noticed a couple things that need correction. A human cleric with 14 Int should start with 20 skill points, but I only counted 16. Another point regarding skills is Survival, which appears to be a class skill for you (whereas it is normally cross-class for clerics). The only way I can see that you might have acquired that is from the Weather domain. I'm not sure I've seen your write-up for the Weather domain. You note in your background that your character trained for six months; the cleric class adds 2 to 12 years (2d6) to your character's base age. So it takes a minimum of 2 years to train to be a cleric. Your character can still be 21 years old though. It just means he would have left the farm at age 19.

Info for Kenku17

I'd say that background is worth at least 500 XPs. After your clerical training is complete, Father Lisorra takes you aside and gives you your first assignment. Handing you a scroll case, he gives you very precise instructions. "Proceed to Narovan with all haste, my son, and seek out the Diviner, Sister Kara. She is in need of a Defender after her previous one was found thrown from the roof of a flat in the city. Give this to owner of the Crookside Inn in Narovan," he says, indicating the scroll case. "He is a friend and should be able to help you find her. And there is one other thing. Narovan can be a dangerous city. Take these to help protect you." He then produces a quiver within which are 10 silvered arrows, 5 sleep arrows, and 5 +1 arrows, handing it to you. "Use them well."

Hafrogman, Kenku, nice backgrounds.

Very nice character portrait, Hafrogman. Did you do that yourself?

My history is very nearly completed and will be posted soon. I'm working on a few tweaks on the character itself which is taking me a bit longer than expected. I've never played psionics before...

Please take your time. All good things come in due time.

The Council of Narovan

The city of Narovan is ruled by some of the most interesting figures in politics. Like many of the powerful personages in Narovan, their backgrounds are shady and their intentions shrouded. Nevertheless, many of them are well known within town and easily recognized.

Countess Anadar de Luz XIII
Anadar is perhaps the shrewdest of the Narovian council members, and some say of the entire Narovian nobility. Her cunning is matched only by her skill with the epee, which is legend as far north as Dardessis. The Luz family controls the banking interests of Narovan and mints the currency of the region. The Luz star is the surest sign of pure gold around.

Panific Drory
The only nonhuman on the council, Panific is a starry-eyed gnome whose head is often elsewhere. He has been on the council longer than anyone else and few people remember ever voting for him. "Pan," as he prefers to be called, is known best for his skillful illusory re-enactments of Narovan's past exploits. Each year he creates a massive magical illusion for the delight of many at the Midnight Festival, the one night of the year when it is safe to be outdoors after dusk. The topic of this illusion varies from year to year, but it has ranged from great battles Narovan has fought to dramatic epics written by Narovan's laureates.

Gentrifex Wevelus
The hapless councilman Gentrifex is the butt of what few political jokes there are in Narovan. If there is a city work that has been botched, he was certain to take the fall. If there was a battle that was lost, he was certain to have ordered the tactical maneuver that caused it. However, he is known as the only member of Narovan's council who has shown a genuine concern for the poor and downtrodden, donating a considerable amount of his personal time and fortune to seeking those responsible for the countless murders that go unanswered in this dark city.

Jhorera Fhelid
The charter of Narovan does not mandate that a council member be naturally born a citizen, or a noble, but so far, Jhorera Fhelid has been the only exception to this rule. As an arms dealer originally from a distant land, Jhorera quickly made a killing (no pun intended) selling her tools of self-defense to the wary citizens of Narovan. Her arrival was seen as a mixed blessing. On the one hand, she brought cheap weapons and new technologies of manufacturing them from another culture which helped ordinary citizens defend themselves. On the other hand, it also put more blades in the hands of those desperate to join the Midnight Guild or commit other crimes. Despite this, or perhaps because of it, Jhorera is the most recently elected council member of Narovan.

Baron Krullo von Darque
Krullo has a sinister reputation as an introvert and the most belligerent member of the council. Yet he also comes from the oldest and most influential noble house in the region so few dare to cross him. He is constantly at odds with Gentrifex and the two feud publicly over many things. Many a public work sponsored by Gentrifex has been squashed when Baron Krullo von Darque learned of it. His midnight-blue cape, black cane, and raven are an unwelcome sign in virtually all parts of the city.

Sorry, I lurk this thread since it's beginning.

I think Kenku wants to use the Weather Domain as written. It is part of the SRD.

Back to lurker mode...

Ah, I see. I was not aware that there was a weather domain there. None of the weather domains I had looked up granted Survival, they all had these strange mechanics instead. Thanks.

Thank you, yours looks interesting too.

Sadly, no. My drawing skills are lackluster, at best. That is the work of one Tim Collier. I tweaked it a little to make it fit my needs.
