I work with a lot of data circuits, and it is amazing how many problems are caused by DNS issues.

Or something like that. Stupid DNS. Then again, without it I guess the internet would be a much less friendly place.

You still didn't tell me what in the world DNS means.
Another guess: Digital Nucleic Symbiont?
Oh, I thought you knew and were just messing around. It stands for Domain Name Server. It basically translates names with IP address, such as EN World with the IP address for the site. It gets complicated, but if everything doesn't match right it can lead to a lot of problems.

It's how devices on the Internet tell each other where they are. While people talk about enworld.org or yahoo.com, the computers think in terms of an IP address of numbers. It's essentially a series of interconnected lookup tables that are constantly updated. When it gets hacked, updates are blocked, or interconnections fail, the routers get confused on where to route the next packet with a given address, so they queue them up and retry until the packets timeout and get deleted.
Yeah, what Lou said! Since he did a much better job of explaining than I did.

Thanks guys! Rhun, I thought your explanation was just fine, too! But, I do appreciate Lou answering me with the degree of overkill that I've come to expect from his over-educated butt over the years!
related question: is there just one DNS for the whole internet, or what? That must be what they keep on that 1972 floppy drive down the hall from the john in the basement of the Pentagon!

No, there are many DNS servers/services out there. Every ISP maintains multiple DNS servers, and a lot of companions maintain their own servers for DNS as well.

If I meet a woman that looks like her, maybe so. But I'm not ready to fall from the noble bachelor ranks just yet.

Have you never watch Firefly/Serenity? Inara is the "Companion" on that show. H-O-T.

Chief, just do a google image search on Morena Baccarin. Rhun's got good taste for sure
As for Firefly, it was a 14-episode show that did much better in DVD sales that while it was on TV. So much so, they got to make a kick-@$$ feature film. It's a matter of opinion, of course, but I consider it one of the best Sci-Fi shows out there.

sounds good. Yeah, I was beginning to suspect that old Matthew had some pretty good taste.
