In the grand tradition of Koboldquest and Halflingquest, we need a single race party for 4e. (no humans)
Looking for 5-6 players and votes for a common race, either from PHB or MM.
Starting at first level, normal point buy. The worst suited class(es) will start with a heirloom item (+1, no powers, yet)
Bunch of halflings on a boat?
Elven defenders of a forest?
Dwarven craftmasters? bunch of Dwarves on a boat?
Tiefling ruin exploration company?
worlds-only Warforged built by a mad wizard?
Set in old Greyhawk, I'll post a description of the starting land from the original boxed set and we can go from there.
The game will be quickly paced (4-5 posts per week.) And balancing interparty role playing and combat.
Sources: PHB, MM, FRPG (feats only), others by request.
Per Discussion: Abbil-Belern (trusted friend of treasure) Mercenaries
A group of Drow mercenary cadets is separated from the company, and must make its own way in the world or under it. Life under Oerith will not be easy, and it is a long way to the nearest drow community - the Vault of the Drow. It will take all your diverse skills and talents to survive. On the surface if humans won't cooperate there are probably goblins or kobolds that can be allied with.

This is interesting. What about drows? I think they're suited to quite a variety of classes in 4e... Also there's good material for them in FRPG, as well as martial power and dragon...
If it's not too early to ask... what level are you thinking? Have you got a theme in mind?

But really, drows make excellent rogues and warlocks, decent warlords and ranged rangers maybe even paladins, have a lot of dedicated feats, racial powers, even paragon paths and an ed... so it seemed like a good choice. If that's allowed, they should make very good sorcerers too, from what is known.

I was planning on starting at level 1, but having accelerated (story based)
advancement. I was considering Drow, the only scenario I came up with was a team of allied houses or relatives training at an academy As the PCs would be terribly underpowered compared to Drow warriors.
I don't have the FRPH, but would allow drow feats from it. Just not the whole dark pact.
I do have MP so its fair game.

Or a group of mercenaries? Like Bregan D'aerthe, but much less powerful. Perhaps they are the remnants of a shattered home, or escaped during the Spellplague and realize there's no way for them to return home in their condition. I'm guessing most would be male PC's and were training in their different skills/classes. The only thing that might not work with drow PC's would be male clerics.
A mission does not make sense for level 1 drow, but if a group of younglings being escorted suddenly lost its escorts ... after initial adventure(s) they could return to their home and be accelerated to higher level.
Dwarves also seem to be in the running: fighter, warlock, cleric, ranger possibly paladin or wizard. Dwarves would likely start in Sterich, between the Crystalmist mountains.
edit: renau1g's idea looks workable - with the Chr bonus you would want insp. warlord instead of a cleric.

Reason: scooped

The invoker could also work as a controller for dwarves rather than the wizards. If you would allow the preview articles until the phb2 is out in just over a months time.
Dwarves provide a pretty solid choice overall, Con-locks, Orb-wizards, Fighters/Paladins, and clerics all work very well...as I said either way I enjoy both races for flavour reasons.

As Eddie Murphy taught us, "Evil is Good!" I'd be fine with that, personally. If we went the evil route, we could go the whole "tromping through the Feywild destroying good/magical creatures and destroying the habitat" angle. Or perhaps we could be sent on a mission by a dark lord as a trial by fire. "Survive this mission and you are in the clan/group/evil-cult/whatever, die, I don't much care" kind of thing.
I was going to mention the invoker for dwarves as well - definitely something I would be keen to try.
When the full game write-up is finished I'll probably throw in a character concept. At this point I do not care what race gets selected, as I'll make characters for any race/class combination.

I've not seen the invoker yet, but I don't have the DDI. I do know I'm excited for the PHB II...
I don't have DDI either, so it will just be book classes, but if you want to write a close friend/relative who is an invoker, you can switch in march.
Drow esp, mercenaries could easily be unaligned rather than evil. They also give a good reason to have strong internal group bonds.
Looks like we have at least 4 willing to play drow.

1st level.
Who wants to play what?

So it's drow? Couple of questions: do you allow the drow article on Dragon (it's free).
Do you use the stealth errata?
Well, I'd like a rogue, but if others want to play one too, I'm willing to try something else.
I'm eager to try a sorcerer, but that'll have to wait...

For Drow, or Dwarf, Warlord could be interesting. I will look at the options and put something together. No Dragon feats/powers I assume?
