Its kind of a standard 3.5 book by now isn't it ;p If I had to just use the DMG for items I would be sooo bored.

I was originally trying to talk him out of the melee warlock build as subpar; he managed to sell me on it with some of his choices, though...so now I'm excited to see what he does with it.

For kicks and giggles I made a Warlock 12/Psion [Shaper] 8 and he had fly as one of his lesser invocation and after playtesting him a bit it was semi nasty.. but I think I need to find a better second class for him heh
