The mysterious Witchlights hang in the horizon as a blazing cargo ship crashes into the docks of Port Magalie. A lone barbarian stands tall on the crumbling vessel, pushing back a horde of goblins fighting to get off the ship. A haphazard team of adventurers, previously unknown to each other, quickly band together and aid the barbarian in ridding the goblin menace and the burning ship quickly turns to flotsam.
Upon questioning from the City Officials, Kail recounts the tale of Lolgoff, the Barbarian King. Lolgoff slayed a dragon, but did not escape injury himself--injuries that now threaten his own life. Through Lolgoff's reign, the barbarian tribes of Hallowdale have acted as a shield between the wild lands and the civilized coastal cities of the Witchlight Strand. Now that his reign is uncertain, so are the relations with Port Magalie.
Kail explains that it is tradition that, upon the death of their king, the various barbarian tribes will war amongst themselves until a new king is crowned the victor, and his tribe ranked above all others.
The City Officials have asked you to make the journey to Hallowdale as emissaries of Port Magalie, not to intervene in the barbarian traditions, but to be there to welcome the new king, and to secure Port Magalie's good relations.
Kail himself has denied the journey, and asks only that you place one of his arrows across the grave of his fallen king.
We are porting to EN World from the game's previous site for technical reasons. The current characters are:
Vatan, a human fighter
Arraeis, an elven cleric
Duthruss, a dwarven rogue
Pier, a human wizard
There is currently one spot open for recruiting. If any of the original players decide not to make the transition, those spots will be open as well. This will be the OOC thread, and I'll get a game thread up as soon as we're ready to re-launch.
As far as posing guidelines, I'm not picky. Just be advised that this will be a fairly slow-paced game. I do ask that you check your spelling and grammar, if at all possible; it sometimes gets a bit difficult to decipher things that appear to have been written by a second-grader. Unless you are a second-grader, of course, in which case we'll talk about an exception.

An IG Game? Awesome. I'm definitely interested. Would a barbarian make sense in this scenario? Perhaps his tribe was destroyed and he escaped the bloodshed... heading back to his people as both shamed and interested to learn about their ways.
These are first level characters. There's only been one combat encounter thus far, so even the original players are still green. Any legal build from the latest version of the Character Builder is fine--as long as I can plug it in and everything comes out good.
A barbarian would work fine, especially a human one with a creative history.
Another thing about the Witchlight Strand that I forgot to mention concerns races. The most common races are human and halfling. Elves comes in a close third. Dwarves are rare but not completely foreign--just ask Druthruss--as are gnomes and half-orcs (though most half-orcs here favor the orcish side). Deva and dragonborn would probably be poked, probed, and dissected for scientific reasons. The jury is still out on goliaths.
If room opens up, give me a holler, I'd be interested in trying 4E a bit more. I don't have a solid build up, but I'd be using things from the PHB and PHB2 only, so it should clear through the Character Builder fine(though I don't actually have it myself).
Just marking my interest as I've seen two volunteers already, I'm volunteering as a reserve. Hope that's not an issue.

Excellent. We'll give it about a week for everyone else to join us. After that, we'll finish up recruiting and get moving. Sound good?
For anyone else interested, I strongly encourage you to visit the CWBP site linked in the first post. You should look at all of it, but being that this game takes place in the Witchlight Strand, you should definitely take a look there to get a bit of background on the area. One thing you'll note is that the barbarian villages of Hallowdale are not detailed in that write-up. I created Hallowdale for the purpose of this game, as well as the town of Hania. I expect that the longer we play, the more the Witchlight Strand and the region of Ansium will grow. Which is kind of the point, really.

I've some ideas I'd like to try. How open to you are some of those weird races you mentioned, like deva, etc? It might be fun to play some kind of unique or close to unique thing...the result of a magical experiment perhaps, or very unusual natural or supernatural phenomena.
Otherwise, I could be quite happy with an elf druid, I think.

I'd be more open to Deva than Dragonborn, I think. Dragonborn just irk me.
An elf or eladrin druid would fit in perfectly in this setting, however. Especially one from the Liaglades, the elves of which have a sort of pact with the humans of Port Magalie, and a vested interest in keeping the savage races at bay.
Would a half-orc work? I was thinking he might bear the scars of what would happen if the savage races aren't held back? Even though he'd be more orcish than manish, he'd cling to that small sliver of humanity.

With a creative history, I think a half-orc is doable.
So far only Redrobes and Midgardsormr have made the transition here to EN World. I'm still hopeful that the other two will make it here soon, but I'd like to go ahead and take a look at some character concepts. As I said, I've definitely got room for one, possibly more depending...
Here's a summary sheet for a 1st level Elf Druid I'm putting together.
Given the nature of the mission, I may reduce Con or Dex and raise Charisma, then train Diplomacy instead of Athletics...but then again, it seems silly to do that when another character will probably have a much better Diplomacy than me, and thus I shan't be making many checks.
Perhaps my role would be more as a guide...and as an emissary from the elves to recognize the new king. Rolewise, I'm going fairly heavy control at 1st level, but I can retrain for more emphasis on wildshapes if needed. Elf + Feral Predator Druid means this character is -fast- on foot. Trained Perception makes for a good scout, when using wildshape to avoid undue notice.
Open to suggestions!

I am Druthruss and Midgard is Pier so were missing Vatan the human fighter and Arraeis the elven cleric.
I PM'ed them and told them about the updates but I havent heard back from either. Also, I have subscribed to this thread with instant email but I dont get any. So knowing whether there has been posts will require a manual check. I wonder if there is something we can do about that. Just want a set of flags thats set by IG and reset when each of us see the latest posts. Anyone have any ideas ?
IG, when you asked for concepts, did you want them from everyone, or just Shayuri and Renau? I don't want to step on anyone's toes or come up with a character until I'm needed.

As far as I know we'll just have to check manually. I think the mods shut that feature down after a glitch and people started getting literally thousands of emails. I usually do a drive by a couple of times a day to see if there's anything new... just a quick click on "my account" will tell you that. I'm sure you knew that though, being Mr. Programming Wizard and all.

Feel free to submit a concept. You don't have to develop a full fledged character if you don't want to (though I've been know to do that just for the sake of doing it...), but an idea of what you want and where you want it to go will be fine.
I also sent the others an email, but have yet to hear anything. They both seemed open to the idea of moving the game here, but maybe they changed their mind.
Tell you what. You three go ahead and make up full characters and consider yourselves part of the party. If the others don't join us here then we'll still have five, and if they do we'll have seven. I can do seven...
I think. Of course we are playing with Shayuri... might have to treat it like a party of ten just to come out even.
Alrighty, I'll review the story materials you've given and such and try to get a concept up in the next few days(I hope there isn't a rush).
My initial ideas at the moment aren't very solid (I'm still new to 4E and looking to try different things[with the PHB and PHB2, those are my two sourcebooks]) but I'm thinking of trying a leader or controller type, if anyone has any particular preferences on the mechanical side. I'm sure I'll be able to tie it into the IC.
Edit: I'm reviewing the wiki now, but am having trouble locating the relevant sections. Which area is it that would give information on the immediate setting of this adventure? If I missed it, apologies in advance.
