So now we can use a buckler hand to cast a spell with somatic!

Have you read the newest 3.5e FAQ (P.4). Now a hand with buckler is considered to be a "free hand" for spell casting purpose.

I guess we will see a lot of clerics with magic buckler.

Why?

You could simply use a light shield, pass your weapon on the off-hand as a free action, cast the spell, and then pass the weapon back again to the main hand. :)

Because the same FAQ now suggsting that action to be a Move action.

Really  ?

*checks*

Ah!

I didn't know WotC did release a new FAQ.

I thought you were talking about the old one.

However, Skip Williams did write this Buckler thing already in the past, in one of the "Rules of the Game" article.

I never understood the point of having a Small Shield with the rules for Buckler.

Now it's even worse.

What am I'm missing?

Light shields allow you to shield bash. And unlike heavy shields, I think they are considered light weapons.

But yeah, we never see light shields right now in our games, and rarely see heavy shields. Almost everybody use bucklers.

A light shield is really the only one useful for two-weapon fighting, because it counts as a light weapon. A heavy shield counts as a one-handed weapon (which causes higher penalties), and a buckler can't be used to bash at all.

A TWF specialist gains some flexibility by using a magic shield with magic spikes as his off-hand weapon. While making a full attack he can use it as a weapon and strike with it, but while taking any other action he can use it as a shield and benefit from the AC bonus. If he has the Shield Expert feat he can do both at once.

No, no, no... not 'a magic shield with magic spikes'. 'A magic spiked shield'.
