Blue Rose: Magic system in play?

I've been interested in BR for a while now, and am wondering how the magic system works in practice. It's not really similar to anything I've used before. Can anyone enlighten me? I'd like to know a bit more before I buy it.

We're using TrueD20 (the mechanics of Blue Rose) for one of the Midnight games I play in. Our party has no magic users, so can't tell you what it is like as a player in practice, but as a target, the magic system feels less mundane and more supernatural than regular D&D magic (which suits Midnight quite well).

From my reading, there tends to be a lot of ability for the GM to judge how powerful any given arcana is.

Fire-shaping for instance. If a sorcerer tries to burn you up, you save against his D20+classlevel+ability. Which tends to be fairly high especially if he's a strait adept. Magic is powerful. The fatiguing rules allieviate that, though - can take awhile for the sorcerer to recover from some spells.

However if it comes down to things like say, setting fire to a house, the GM's judgement call is often required. Some spells present good specialised rules, but some would be difficult to deal with. If you are cool and calm, it's not a problem. But realise that players might be a bit confused at their now rather random talents.

If you want a bad guy to be powerful, these are the rules for it. When they embrace their corrupt nature, they add their corruption bonus instead of their ability. They get corruption by casting spells in an evil way or spells of an evil nature.

So, ouch.

So, we could easily assume that the Lich King (Adept20) would be adding quite a lot to his evil spells - around + 30, assuming he's got that many corruption points, which is easy enough to assume. And thats without his class bonus or special feats and things. So we do have rather nifty abilities to plague whole realms for bad guys or summon meteors and such.

Power like that is dangerous in the hands of any DM. Players should start to want to avoid wanting to kill the lich king.
