Actually, he misspoke his joke, if you look at the tape, he quickly says afterwards, "you DID have friends, then?" Freudian slip, and all that. :)
Ah, maybe that was his intended joke. I'd hoped he wasn't falling into the typical gamer self-depreciation. Curses!

Still, it's worth watching just to see "Len Lakofka," "ki-rin," and "GenCon" get mentioned on network TV. Conan seems to be D&D celebrity ground zero.

I loved that. "I ran the first test battle of a Ki-rin versus a <something or other>! I won that battle, too, Gygax!" :)

Awesome. Here we have a D&D and LotR fan not only not being picked on, but actively picking on the rest. And he's one of the 100 most influental people in the world. (at least, the 100 known ones) World domination isn't far away now.

Just because Time Magazine claims that someone is among the 100 most influential in the world, doesn't mean they really are. Outside of North America, I doubt many people know who he is. I didn't until I saw this thread and looked him up on Wikipedia. Now it's possible to be both influential and unknown but not as an entertainer. :\

Still, cool that D&D got mentioned.

By the way, who is Conan O'Brien and how could he be anti-gaming with a name like Conan? :p

See... this is why D&d players never get invited anyplace nice... we always end up at world domination...

Nobody was getting picked on, KY. Colbert, a sizeable celebrity, was indulging in some good-humored celebration of his geek heritage on national TV. There is no downside here.

Maybe he is anti-gaming because of his first name... :p Then again, who knows, he could be a closet gamer.
