The Doctor in Sarah Jane Adventures
Next week on CBBC (Thursday and Friday, 4.35pm) David Tennant will be guest-starring in The Sarah Jane Adventures!
The two parter is called "The Wedding of Sarah Jane Smith", and The Doctor turns up to celebrate the day with her - only to discover a trap! Russell T Davies says "It's really a sneaky way of having an extra Who episode this year. David isn't just cameoing in it - he's properly in it!"
In today's episode, K9 was freed from his job of guarding a black hole, possibly hinting at his permanent return to the Who-niverse.
Tennant will return again as The Doctor in The Waters of Mars, sometime in November on BBC1, and then in The End of Time, the two-art finale of his run as The Doctor over Christmas and New Year, also starring Tomothy Dalton, and John Simm as The Master.

Doctor Who cartoon: first picture
Doctor Who has been turned into a cartoon featuring David Tennant in a special animated adventure.
The six-part series, titled Dreamland, will premiere on the Doctor Who website and via the BBC Red Button service in the autumn, before being broadcast on BBC Two as part of CBBC. It will also be available on the BBC HD channel.
In Dreamland, Tennant’s Time Lord visits Roswell, the area in New Mexico rumoured to be the site of an alien landing. During a visit to a local diner, he stumbles across a mysterious alien artefact and ends up battling the evil Viperox and the US military.
Georgia Moffett voices the character of Cassie Rice, the Doctor’s companion. David Warner plays the leader of the ruthless Viperox.
The 45-minute long adaptation is written by Phil Ford, who has scripted episodes of Doctor Who, Torchwood and the Sarah Jane Adventures.
Russell T Davies, Dreamland’s executive producer and the writer who brought Doctor Who back to the screen, said: “Dreamland is a remarkable project and I’m thrilled with it. Phil Ford is a wonderful writer and... [Read More]

Torchwood creator Russell T Davies says the Doctor Who spin-off could return
Torchwood creator Russell T Davies has announced that his John Barrowman-starring Dr Who spin-off vehicle could make a dramatic return.
Fans of the Dr Who-inspired series thought that time had run out for the programme after the much-loved character Ianto Jones was killed off.
However, Russell has revealed he's already got new ideas to take the programme forward.
Talking to this month's issue of Torchwood Magazine, the screenwriter said: "I know exactly how to pick it up. I¹ve got a shape in mind, and I've got stories. I know where you'd find Gwen and Rhys, and their baby, and Jack, and I know how you'd go forward with a new form of Torchwood."
The show, which starred John Barrowman, received massive ratings with the first episode of the five-part series, Children of Earth, pulling in 5.9 million viewers.
The Welsh television producer and writer said he’s confident that he can pull off another successful series, regardless of the format the BBC decides on.

Doctor Who’s Greatest Moments on BBC3
Doctor Who’s Greatest Moments is a new three-part documentary series from the Doctor Who Confidential team.
Patrick Mulkern, in the new issue of the Radio Times has this to say:
With 58 Doctor Who Confidentials already under their belt, Gillane Seaborne and her team deliver a trio of themed docs – a fast, fun celebration of all that has made Doctor Who a storming success since its rebirth in 2005. [Parts 2 and 3] Companions and Enemies will follow, but this week it’s the Doctor’s turn in the limelight. What makes the Bachelor of Time tick? Why does he need reigning in occasionally? And who are his own heroes?
As well as clips from the series, there’ll be interviews from the “nearly departed” David Tenant, Freema Agyeman, Georgia Moffett, “next Doctor” David Morrissey and Captain Jack himself, John Barrowman.
Each episode is an hour in length, and the first, The Doctor, will be shown in the UK on BBC3 on Thursday, 20 August 2009 at 8:00 pm.

BBC America Picks Up 5th Series Of Doctor Who
BBC America has obtained the rights to the 2010 series of Doctor Who starring Matt Smith, outbidding SyFy for the show.
The show will appear on BBC America "shortly after its BBC1 launch", making for a much shorter gap between UK and US viewings.
When BBC America showed Torchwood: Children of Earth, it achieved its highest viewing figures ever, getting just over half of the UK viewing figures of 6 million.

Doctor Who star David Tennant sends 'postcard' from America
Doctor Who star David Tennant has joined the show's executive producers Russell T Davies and Julie Gardner in Los Angeles to post their regular 'radio postcards' to BBC Radio Wales listeners.
In the latest 'postcard', to be heard in the Radio Wales Jamie Owen and Louise Elliott show today (Friday 7 August, from 9.00am), David relives his "Robbie Williams" experience of being mobbed at a fantasy convention, and tells how his agent had her photo taken with several of his 10th Doctor lookalikes.
On Monday (August 10), in the same programme, David, who has been in San Diego taking part in the massive ComicCon convention with Russell, Julie and Doctor Who and Torchwood director Euros Lyn, will tell listeners how he fared at his first Hollywood audition.
The Jamie and Louise show, which receives regular updates from Russell and Julie in Los Angeles, can be heard live outside Wales on the BBC iPlayer and through bbc.co.uk/radiowales, or, if you miss the programme, the 'postcards' can be downloaded from the same website.

Doctor Who is TV's "Most successful sci-fi show"
During the Comic-Con Doctor Who panel today, there was a surprise visit from Guinness World Records. Doctor Who was announced as being not only the longest-running sci-fi show in the world, but "the most successful sci-fi show on TV full stop".
Domestic (in the UK) viewing figures for Doctor Who range from 8-12 million viewers, dwarfing cult favourites such as the new Battlestar Galactica (2-3 million US viewers) and even Buffy The Vampire Slayer in its prime (4-6 million viewers). In the US, sci-fi shows are generally considered successful with 2-3 million viewers. This makes Doctor Who THE biggest sci-fi TV franchise in the world by a large margin.
Torchwood: Children of Earth got a great run, also. In the UK 6 million viewers followed the 5-day story. BBC America reshowed the series in the US last week.
Adding in merchandising such as CDs, toys and so on, the BBC's flagship show has proved to be a monumental success!

'Doctor Who' panel at Comic-Con
The following was blogged live by Digital Spy today:
10.06am: "Good morning class, and welcome to Doctor Who 101," says the panel's moderator. Big tease.
10.07am: Bit of context on how the revival came about. He says it's a show that can make you cry. Damn right. I might be sobbing today.
10.08am: First up, a clip from Planet of the Dead, which we've all seen already. (It premieres tonight on BBC America). A movie-style deep voiceover accompanies quick flashes from the episode.
10.10am: The moderator introduces the panellists for today's session: ex-ep Julie Gardner, long-time director Euros Lyn (lots of applause here - nice to see such a warm reaction to the production team), Russell T Davies and ... big applause for David Tennant.
10.13am: The moderator brings up the possibility of a movie. Julie Gardner says that there is not going to be any announcement about a Who movie. "But what it's made us think is that it might be a good idea to do it at some point. Is this something you want?" Huge cheers.
10.16am: Cut to brief preview reel of clips from David's final episodes as the Doctor. A voiceover mentions "bad dreams".... [Read More]

The Doctor's Outlandish Outfiits
On Monday morning we were given our first glimpse of Matt Smith in costume as the eleventh incarnation of the heroic Time Lord in Doctor Who. The outfit has sparked plenty of debate, with the tweed jacket and bow tie resembling something a geriatric Physics teacher would wear to 'Parents Evening'. But given the outrage that initially greeted Christopher Eccleston's leather jacket - and its subsequent popularity - we're sure The Doctor's wardrobe is in very capable hands. Here's a look at the Gallifreyan's iconic costumes down the years...
The First Doctor

William Hartnell's Edwardian suit and walking stick (very useful for fending off the Zarbi) befitted an increasingly tired Time Lord heading towards a regeneration. When the show first hit the airwaves in 1963, the crazy fashions of that decade were starting to take hold and The Doctor's outfit helped to position him as a man of history and mystery. Interestingly enough, the original pilot episode saw him wear a contemporary garb, but this was wisely dropped for the broadcast version. He wasn't afraid of making slight wardrobe changes to adapt to his... [Read More]

The Future Of Doctor Who And Torchwood: Revealed!
We've already wondered whether Torchwood could possibly top its world-crashing "Children Of Earth" miniseries in 2010, and we're also dead curious about the rumored Doctor Who movie. So we asked the BBC's Julie Gardner what's in store for both institutions.
We were lucky enough to have a one-on-one interview with Gardner, who's supervised both Who and Torchwood for the BBC, the other day. And she shared her thoughts about both shows, going forward. Plus she explained why, exactly, she's moved to Los Angeles.
She says the BBC will fully try to top the current season of Torchwood, assuming it actually returns in 2010. That's "part of the fun, and part of the adrenaline rush of working in TV drama." She adds, "The joy, for me, with Torchwood, is that it's a show that, every single years, has reinvented itself." That's certainly true with the new format of a five-part miniseries airing across five consecutive nights, which Jane Trantor suggested and Russell T. Davies found an exciting challenge.
"We're kind of having conversations now, about what the next step is, because I do think it's fun working on a show that reinvents itself constantly. We're looking at all of this, whether another serial arc, or possibly... [Read More]

River Song Returns!
Set photos from the first day of filming of the 2010 Doctor Who series starring Matt Smith show him accompanied by not just new assistant Amy Pond (Karen Gillen), but also the return of River Song, played by Alex Kingston.
River Song first appeared alongside David Tennant's Doctor in the double episode Silence in The Library/Forest of the Dead, where it was heavily implied that she was from the Doctor's own future, where she knew him well. She knew the Doctor's real name, and it appears that she is the only person he has ever/will ever tell.
River Song was an archaeologist from the 51st century already highly familiar with the Doctor when they first meet (from his perspective). She was, in fact, a future companion of his who travelled with him off and on. According to her, he trusted her implicitly. River's expedition to Library was financed by Felman Lux and was chartered to find out what disaster had happened there, 100 years previously, that had caused 4022 people to "die" or disappear. When her team ran into trouble during an expedition to a deserted library, it was only natural that River should try to summon the Doctor by sending him a message via psychic paper. The version of the Doctor who turned up had not yet met her. Though bewildered, he agreed... [Read More]
