Name: Cloak of the Lycanthrope
Item Type: Wondrous Item
Description: This is a simple hide or fur cloak, well-made but not fancy, sized for large to tiny creatures. Each is tied to a different kind of lycanthrope; werewolf, werebear, wererat, etc. Donning this cloak gives the wearer the ability to shapeshift between humanoid, animal and hybrid forms, as a lycanthrope, up to a total of 5 times per day. The cloak becomes part of the wearer’s body in animal or hybrid forms, but remains a cloak in humanoid form. The humanoid form is always the wearer’s natural humanoid form. Furthermore, while wearing a lycanthrope cloak (as it is also known), the wearer gains the shape shifter subtype, and all of the traits of a lycanthrope, as appropriate to the cloak’s lycanthrope type, except for alignment. If slain while changed into either the hybrid or animal form, the wearer reverts to his or her true form, and the cloak returns to its item form. Each full day that the cloak of the lycanthrope is worn, the wearer must make a Fortitude save (DC 15) or be afflicted with lycanthropy.
History: Certain tribal societies believe in animal spirits and often seek oneness with their animal brethren. In such societies, these cloaks can be found, made by the tribal shamans for the tribe's warriors.
