Introduction

The Dragoon

"A soldier who combines dash and steadiness in so equal measure that he makes his advances on foot and his retreats on horseback."

Class Traits

Role: Defender. You are very tough and have the exceptional ability to contain enemies in melee.

Power Source: Martial. You have become a master of combat through endless hours of practice, determination, and your own sheer physical toughness.

Key Abilities: Strength, Dexterity, Intelligence

Armor Proficiencies: Cloth, leather, hide, chainmail, scale; light shield, heavy shield

Weapon Proficiencies: Simple melee, military melee, simple ranged

Bonus to Defense: +1 Fortitude, +1 Reflex

Hit Points at 1st Level: 15 + Constitution score
Hit Points per level Gained: 6
Healing Surges per Day: 9 + Constitution modifier

Overview

Characteristics: You combine fast, hard-hitting melee attack power with modest ranged attack ability, and shift easily from melee to ranged combat. You are resilient in battle, but your real strength lies in hit-and-run attacks.

Religion: Dragoons favor deities of justice and battle. They often revere Bahamut, Erathis, or the Kord. Many unaligned or evil dragoons pay homage to Tiamat, the evil god of wealth, greed, and envy.

Races: Humans, halflings, dragonborn, and eladrin are all sometimes drawn to serve as dragoons.

Creating a Dragoon

Dragoons are all capable defenders but, some are better at holding back their foes while others are better at drawing them in.

Spring Attack
You can take further actions after a charge

Dragoon's Challenge
Every time you attack an enemy, whether the attack hits or misses, you can choose to mark that target. The mark lasts until the end of your next turn. While a target is marked, it takes a –2 penalty to attack rolls for any attack that doesn’t include you as a target. A creature can be subject to only one mark at a time. A new mark supersedes a mark that was already in place.
In addition, whenever a marked enemy moves or shifts adjacent to you, you can make a melee basic attack against that enemy as an immediate interrupt.

Dragon's fury
When an enemy you have marked makes an attack that doesn't include you, you gain +int to hit on your next attack on that enemy

Dragon Jump
When you make a high jump or a long jump, determine the DC of the Athletics check as though you had a running start.

Dragoon Power Keywords

Spear - as weapon, but requires spears

Impale – as spear, also, on hit the target is grabbed. While the target is grabbed, the dragoon cannot use the spear to make attacks on other targets

Charge – When charging you may use this power instead of a basic attack. You can not use this power except as part of a charge.

Dive - Can only be used while falling into or adjacent to a creature's space. Dive powers have their damage scale with X which is the number of feet you fell divided by ten. If you miss only acrobatics can reduce or prevent the falling damage. After the attack you land in a space adjacent to the target.

Level 1 At-Will Exploits

Leap Attack
You leap into combat faster than your enemies can react
