ENWiki:Feature requests

From ENWiki

A list of feature requests for the Wiki itself. In the interest of not having to duplicate the list, we might as well discuss the requests on this page rather than use the talk page for it.

[edit] Generic Requests

  1. Upload various file types (.pdf, .doc, .odt, .xls, .ods, .txt, .zip to name a few)
  2. Install Cite.php for inline citations
  3. Allow regular users to edit MediaWiki:Common.css, or institute some sort of change control for it
    • I'd like to add some stuff for pretty tables and whatnot; perhaps simply copying the English Wikipedia's Common.css would work just as well. withak (talk) 13:50, 9 July 2008 (UTC)
      • This seems troublesome to me... the only way this could be regulated in any way would be to create a new user group of "CSS Stylists" or something of the such. However, Morrus doesn't know who of us know what the hell we're doing, or who he can trust not to mess up the wiki. I have a lot of experience with wikis, having run one for awhile, but even I wouldn't want to have any sort of responsibility to make everyone on the site agree with what I think looks nice. I think maybe we should just make suggestions to Morrus, and whomever his techie is (perhaps that is Morrus??), and put things to votes, much like Wikipedia does, and have them implemented by just one or two people who know what they're doing! :) However, on the subject at hand, it would be nice to have the "Pretty Tables" implemented - I believe there's an easy-to-use extension over at mediawiki.org, I'll look into it. --Ishmayl 14:10, 9 July 2008 (UTC)
        • ... which is why I suggested the whole "change control" thing. ;-) This could be as simple as having Techie Dude X monitor MediaWiki talk:Common.css and implement changes suggested by users. withak (talk) 14:18, 9 July 2008 (UTC)
          • Ah, I see. Perhaps we should ask Morrus who he uses as a techie, and maybe see about getting a few other people involved to work on some things like that. --Ishmayl 14:21, 9 July 2008 (UTC)
  4. Could the color for the external wiki-links (like this) be lightened up a little bit? That color blue is hard to read on black. --Merkuri 03:49, 15 July 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Extension Requests

  1. StringFunctions, Variables, and ParserFunctions (the last of which may already be installed) are all very good extensions to have available for writing good templates. --Ishmayl 14:21, 9 July 2008 (UTC)
  2. Please install [ParserFunctions] we can build actually useful templates. --JBowtie 23:50, 13 July 2008 (UTC)
    • It was installed earlier today. --Morrus 00:30, 14 July 2008 (UTC)
