L4W:Transitive Isles:Original Poll

From ENWiki

Jump to: navigation, search

You will note that there is no "I hate this" option. You can't build a setting by saying by getting a list of "everything that somebody-on-the-net doesn't like". Instead of wasting electrons grousing about how the proposal isn't what you want, propose a clear strong alternative. Try to make it flavorful, fun and interesting.

Also consider how it will work in play: "I want my character to be able to do anything with no restrictions" will put a lot of pressure on the judges and create a lot of arguments. Try to remember that you are writing for a (hopefully) a large group of players and several judges.

The most important point

 • I understand that these proposed points are just "starting suggestions"; if I make constructive suggestions LEW4 will change to adapt to my needs.

Overall Structure

 • I prefer a traditional system with a "fixed map" that broadly outlines the world and locks down locations (see "Daunton & the Allarian League" Proposal a sample)
 • I prefer a modular setting where only an initial starting zone is fixed, individual locations (islands, isolates, whatever) are somewhat removed and travel and precise geography are not fixed (see "The Transitive Isles" Proposal)
 • I prefer another structure/system ______________.
 • I don't care about how its structured.
 • I don't understand what this question is getting at/think the question is confusing/etc.

Home City Size

 • I agree with the conventional wisdom on the LEW thread that the starting area should be at least the size of a small city (to explain why characters who are from the same city may not know each other and justify why you can buy and sell rare and expensive magic items).
 • I disagree, and would like to have the home city be smaller because _______________
 • I want the home city to be a massive sprawling metropolis (and I'm gonna help everybody by working hard to write up neighborhoods and help map the whole thing out..... ;)
 • I'd like the home city to be spread out over several distinct geographic regions (Isle of Daunton, its neighboring isle of Bacarte, etc)

Specific elements

Most of the elements from the Transitive Isles, Daunton & the Allarian League and other proposals will probably be considered for implementation. The more constructive (!) feedback you give the better they will become.

 • I have concerns/doubts about <insert setting element X>; it could <insert adverse impact here> instead I suggest _________
 • I realize that <insert setting element X> provides certain features _________; however I think that it <insert adverse impact here> I believe that <new setting element> would preserve the good parts of the old element while resolving my concerns.

Example: I realize that The Imperium provides certain features (It is a morally ambiguous actor in the world, and provides the opportunity for political games); however I think that it is too obviously like rome and ruins verisimilitude for be because I prefer my fantasy settings to be more like "traditional" DnD I believe that My New Proposal [link] would preserve the good parts of the old element while resolving my concerns.

Character Creation: Available universe of choice

 • I think we should allow... only the phb races and classes
 • ... the optional races from the appendix of the MM
 • ... material from other official published WotC books
 • ... material from official online material (dragon/dungeon)
 • ... material from other official published non-WotC books
 • ... fan created material (and I'm gonna volunteer to spend the hours required to try to balance it)
 • I don't think there should be hard and fast rules, players should request for non-core material and it should be approved on a case-by-case basis (and I'm gonna volunteer to spend the hours required to do that)
 • I think we should follow the same restrictions as Living FR (published books and parts of online materials)

Character Creation: Unusual combinations

 • I like having some restrictions on starting character class/race/cultural combinations (which combinations are acceptable would be developed later)
 • I'd like to have improbable combinations scrutinized more carefully but not prohibited
 • Instead of negative restrictions I'd like to have positive enforcement of "probable race/class/cultural" combinations (2 extra attribute points or a level 1 magic item or "fast tracking approval" or granting regional advantages those in the living FR preview or ________)
 • No restrictions -- totally free
 • I don't think the setting allows character type _______ which I would like to play.

Questions tabled for now

Character Creation: Stealing from Living FR

 • I would like to consider including "regional advantages" for characters from each region; similar to those in the living forgotten realms game.

Reskining the Setting

 • Instead of "islands at sea" as the fluff; I suggest re-skinning it as _________ (cities connected by magical portals, whatever)

Setting Overall

 • I feel the starting area is...
 • ...too large
 • ...too small
 • ...around the right size
 • ...too restrictive
 • ...too open
 • ...strikes a good balance between permissiveness and verisimilitude
 • ...too/not enough ______; I suggest instead ________
 • I think it should be easier/harder for characters/groups to move around because _________; I suggest _________
