Lobgog is an exceptionally large and intelligent dretch whose abilities are further enhanced by a number of potent magical items. He more or less leads the dretch horde in service to his beloved master Azadan.

Background

Dretches rarely survive long enough to grow in power, and those that do are typically chosen to become a more powerful type of demon, usually a babau. Only in rare instances will a dretch actually progress as a dretch, achieving a modest level of power, enough to bully and influence other dretches anyway. Lobgog is one such dretch, and he has grown to epic proportions by dretch standards, standing nearly six feet tall and weighing in excess of two hundred pounds.

Like many of his fellow dretches, Lobgog felt the irresistible pull of Azadan’s influence and followed it to the gates of Hedrax, where the former human general was amassing his army. As the strongest of his kind, Lobgog found immediate favor with his new master, and found that he actually wanted to please Azadan, an anomalous trait common to all the dretches that served the powerful babau commander.

Lobgog proved his value quickly, leading his dretches ably in a number of skirmishes with Yaghur Hod’s scouting sorties. His task was to lead his dretches into the daemonic line and disrupt their cohesion with chaotic, mob tactics. This he did well, as it played to natural strengths of his race. In addition, Lobgog showcased his skill as a n individual combatant, and destroyed a number of powerful daemons in one on one combat.

For his successes, Azadan rewarded Lobgog with a number of fairly potent magical items. This included an enchanted greataxe, a shirt of enchanted steel links, a crimson cloak, and lastly, a circlet that vastly increased the dretch’s cognitive ability.

Strategies & Tactics

With his circlet, Lobgog is equal to a fairly bright human in terms of intellect and cognitive ability. This allows him to utilize a fair number of complex tactics that would normally be far beyond a dretch’s ability. Lobgog begins combat by attempting to summon more of his brethren, thereby allowing him to flank or overwhelm individual foes. After that, he typically moves into melee with his axe, making good use of his Power Attack and Cleave feats to quickly decimate weaker foes. He rarely uses his spell-like abilities, save for the occasional stinking cloud to cover his advance or escape.

Lobgog’s primary tactical weakness, however, is his overconfidence in his new abilities. His increased intellect, coupled with his chaotic alignment, has made him rash, and he often engages foes that are simply too powerful for him to handle. Luckily the vast numbers of dretches that fight alongside him have evened the odds, but eventually he may run afoul of an enemy that will not be intimidate by dretches, no matter how many, or how big they are.
