Prestige Class - Elementalist by prolix lacuna "The elemental wizard is a new variety of specialist mage beginning to appear throughout the lands. These wizards scorn the "accepted" theories of magical classification (the rigid school structure) in favor of a holistic, natural understanding of magic. The result is elementalism. Fire | Air -- opposes -- Earth | Water " from the 2E Tome of Magic (see Tome for further details) Hitdie: d4 Requirements: cannot be specialized in a school of magic (Elementalists are considered specialized) Spellcasting: ability to cast 7 spells in Element desired (Air, Earth, Fire, Water), one of which must be at least 3rd level Skills: Knowledge(Arcana) 10 ranks OR Knowledge(Arcana) 8 ranks and the Feat: Skill Focus[Knowledge(Arcana)]. Note that Skill Focus provides a bonus to checks. It does not increase the number of ranks in a skill. Speak Language(appropriate Element language) 1 rank. Fire is Ignan. Air is Auran. Earth is Terran. Water is Aquan. Feat: 2 metamagic Feats on spells of your specialty element. Special: The Elementalist must make peaceful contact with an Elemental from the appropriate plane. That Elemental must be capable and willing to tune the Elementalist's body to that plane. Class Skills: Alchemy, Craft, Knowledge(Arcana), Profession, Scry, Spellcraft Water Elementalists get +2 to Swim checks as well as Swim as a class skill. Earth Elementalists get Move Silent as a class skill. Air Elementalists get Jump as a class skill. Fire Elementalists get a -2 penalty to swim checks. Fire Elementalists get Intimidate as a class skill. Skill Points at each level: 2 + Int modifier Class Features: Weapon and Armor Proficiencies: Elementalists gain no proficiencies in any weapon or armor. Spells Advancement: A Elementalist continues training in magic as well as elemental research. Thus, when some (but not all) Elementalist levels are gained, the character gains new spells per day as if she had also gained a level in a spellcasting class she had belonged to before she added the Prestige class. She does not, however, gain any other benefits a character of that class would have gained. (See Loremaster, DMG) Class Level 1 Attack Bonus: +0 Saves F/R/W : 0/0/2 Spells Advancement: Elementalists gain no spell advancement for this level. (Note: they do gain the bonus 1 spell per level per day for specialty spells. See below.) Special: Attuned to Element - The spellcasters body is altered to make her more attuned to her specialty plane. This provides the spellcaster with a number of benefits and penalties. The Elementalist gets to prepare an additional spell per level per day. That spell must be from her element of specialty. (see specialization, PHB) The Elementalist gets +4 to all Spellcraft checks for spells and/or effects related to her element of specialty. The Elementalist gets a +2 bonus to saves against a spell or effect related to her element. The Elementalist gets a -2 penalty to saves against a spell or effect opposed to her element. An Elementalist can cast spells from the opposition element, but only at considerable danger to herself and others. When casting a spell opposed to her specialty that has a beneficial effect, there is a 50% chance that the beneficial effect is turned harmful. The Elementalist knows when a spell backfires and thus saving throws are allowed. When casting a spell opposed to her specialty that has a harmful effect, there is a 50% chance that the harmful effect is turned helpful. When casting a spell opposed to her specialty that does damage, the Elementalist takes an equal amount of damage due to the channeling of this opposition energy. The Elementalist is allowed a saving throw (at -2 of course) to take 1/2 damage. Using a magic item spell or effect from an opposition element also has a 50% backfire chance as described above. A magic item created by the Elementalist with a spell or effect from an opposition element will have a 50% backfire chance no matter who uses it. Class Level 2 Attack Bonus: +1 Saves F/R/W : 0/0/3 Spells Advancement: +1 level of existing class Special: The spellcaster gets a +2 bonus to the DC of any spell cast within her specialty. Class Level 3 Attack Bonus: +1 Saves F/R/W : 1/1/3 Spells Advancement: +1 level of existing class Special: Once time per day, an elementalist may choose to cast one memorized/prepared spell from her element of specialty as if she were 1d4 levels higher. She must declare her decision to do this immediately prior to casting the spell. This affects range, duration, area of effect, and damage; it does not allow the spellcaster to cast a spell from a level which she normally could not use. Class Level 4 Attack Bonus: +2 Saves F/R/W : 1/1/4 Spells Advancement: +1 level of existing class Special: Any creature(s) summoned from your Elemental plane get +1 hitpoint per hitdie. Class Level 5 Attack Bonus: +2 Saves F/R/W : 1/1/4 Spells Advancement: +1 level of existing class Special: When using the spell "Contact Other Plane" to contact your Elemental plane, you get a +2 bonus on your Intelligence check. Furthermore, the chance of being lied to is reduced. DMs: if lie comes up, reroll the dice 1 time only and use whatever the new result says. Class Level 6 Attack Bonus: +3 Saves F/R/W : 2/2/5 Spells Advancement: +1 level of existing class Special: Two times per day, an elementalist may choose to cast one memorized/prepared spell from her element of specialty as if she were 1d4 levels higher. She must declare her decision to do this immediately prior to casting the spell. This affects range, duration, area of effect, and damage; it does not allow the spellcaster to cast a spell from a level which she normally could not use. Class Level 7 Attack Bonus: +3 Saves F/R/W : 2/2/5 Spells Advancement: +1 level of existing class Special: Greater Attunement: The Elementalist can survive on her plane of specialty. She can move as if she were an elemental when on her plane of specialty. This does not provide any means of getting there, only surviving once there. Class Level 8 Attack Bonus: +4 Saves F/R/W : 2/2/6 Spells Advancement: +1 level of existing class Special: Any creature(s) summoned from your Elemental plane get +2 hitpoints per hitdie, +1 attack, +1 damage, and +1 to saves Class Level 9 Attack Bonus: +4 Saves F/R/W : 3/3/6 Spells Advancement: +1 level of existing class Special: Three times per day, an elementalist may choose to cast one memorized/prepared spell from her element of specialty as if she were 1d4 levels higher. She must declare her decision to do this immediately prior to casting the spell. This affects range, duration, area of effect, and damage; it does not allow the spellcaster to cast a spell from a level which she normally could not use. Class Level 10 Attack Bonus: +5 Saves F/R/W : 3/3/7 Spells Advancement: Elementalists gain no spell advancement for this level. Special: Perfect Attunement: Air Elementalists are completely unaffected/undistracted by normal wind. Magical wind that causes damage is reduced by 3 points per round per source. Air Elementalists can fly with good maneuverability (see DMG) at their movement rate. This is a supernatural ability. Earth Elementalists are completely unaffected/undistracted by poor traction on earth/stone due to normal sources. Earth effects that causes damage are reduced by 3 points per round per source. This include thrown stones/boulders as well as damage from falling on stone/earth. Earth Elementalists can Meld into Stone/Earth at will for unlimited duration. (see the spell in the PHB) They do not need to remain in contact with the face of the stone. This allows them to move thru stone/earth as a speed of 1' per round. This is a supernatural ability. Water Elementalists are completely unaffected/undistracted by normal water and cold. Magical water/cold that causes damage is reduced by 3 points per round per source. Water Elementalists can breathe underwater. This is a supernatural ability. Fire Elementalists are completely unaffected/undistracted by normal heat and fire. Magical fire that causes damage is reduced by 3 points per round per source. Fire Elementalists can Produce Flame once per minute as per the spell and at their highest current spellcaster level. This is a spell-like ability. When using the spell "Contact Other Plane" to contact your Elemental plane, you get a +4 bonus on your Intelligence check. Furthermore, you have no chance of being lied to. However, there still is a chance of the creature contacted being mistaken. DMs: if lie comes up, reroll the dice until you get a non-lie result.
